Director of Operations and Head of Elections task force, Chief Superintendent Dr. Benjamin Agordzo has asked members and supporters of the various political parties to desist from perpetrating violence against their opponents.
Speaking in an interview with host Kwami Sefa Kayi onPeaceFM's "Kokrokoo" show, Dr. Agordzo issued a stern warning to the party supporters to stop terrorizing people in the name of celebrating their candidate's victory during the just-ended Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
He advised them to be tolerant of one another's views and to also note the fact that someone supported a particular party doesn't make him or her enemy.
“The IGP has given instructions all across the country to Regional Commanders, Divisional Commanders, Unit Commanders to be on the lookout; in Accra in particular. I have personally deployed a lot of patrol teams and intelligence officers who are going round to work. We also plead with Ghanaians to give us information on those who are planning such attacks. If you have any information, it’s not helping us. It is denting an otherwise very peaceful and excellent elections we had.
“…we cannot be undermining one another and beating one another over election results, over victory and defeat and other things…What will we gain by attacking each other over an election victory?” he quizzed.
Chief Supt. Dr. Benjamin Agordzo further urged Ghanaians to be modest in their jubilations.
“If you’re jubilating, we discussed and agreed that these people should be modest in their celebrations, not teasing and taunting others…We therefore plead with political parties to talk to their supporters to limit that kind of over-jubilation. We should know that one has a right to also jubilate anyway because you can’t stop people from jubilating but we just have to be modest. Going forward, we will prosecute anybody and already there’s somebody we’ve arrested…” he said. |
