Kwesi Pratt, Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, has condemned in the strongest terms the xenophobic attacks on foreign blacks in South Africa.
The increasing rate of the xenophobia that has recently gained roots in South African after Zulu KING ZWELITHINI and Edward Zuma, son of South African's President Jacob Zuma allegedly openly declared support for the attacks to be meted out to foreigners taking over the South African market.
Jobless South Africans are venting their anger and frustration of joblessness on Africans who they accuse of taking over their jobs and earning decent salaries. Over the past few days they have clubbed, tortured and even burnt other Africans alive to announce their frustration.
They are threatening to kill dozen others if the Africans do not leave their country. The assailants in South African believe the country's woes are as a result of the emergence of the African immigrants.
About five people including a Ghanaian national have so far been reported killed in the attacks.
Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Mr. Pratt condemned the attacks and sought to enlighten the South Africans on the need to end the social phobic attacks immediately.
According to him, South Africans should note that they also have their citizens residing in other foreign countries and their action back home could also become a threat to them.
To him, it will be a bizarre scene should South African nationals experience the trauma that other Africans are undergoing under the hands of the perpetrators.
“The reason for the increased poverty of black people is that the system of apartheid has not been dismantled. Such system of apartheid is being operated. What has changed is the colour of the managers of the system but the actual system of apartheid is still intact,” Pratt said. |
