Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., has slated the NPP Parliamentary candidate for Awutu Senya West, George Andah for comments deemed discriminatory against his competitor, Hannah Tetteh.
George Andah, addressing some NPP faithfuls in the constituencies, reportedly took the campaign podium accompanied by his wife and dared Hon. Hannah Tetteh to "produce" her husband.
Speaking on "Alhaji and Alhaji" on Radio Gold, Mr. Pratt slammed George Andah for demeaning the integrity of "divorced" women in the country.
To him, Mr. Andah's comments are disgusting and a high level of indiscretion.
"Are we saying that women who are divorced are hopeless and cannot participate in national politics? Are we saying that women who are divorced have no right as citizens to take part in our political (you know) enterprises and so on? Is that what we're saying? Are we going to discriminate against divorcees?" he questioned Mr. Andah's logic.
Mr. Pratt further called on all political figures and the nation at large to respect the rights of women, particularly those in Ghana's politics.
"I'm so (so) disgusted. Now, let us even assume that she's never married before and has no children. Are we not even learning from what is happening around the world...Are we saying that marriage is the yardstick for determining the contribution of women? Why should women be linked to men for them to get gravitas in anything? So, if a woman is not married; she's useless?"
He had a word of advice for Mr. Andah, saying "You can attack Madam Hannah Tetteh. You can disagree with her. You can argue that she has done nothing for her constituency. You can say that her vision for the constituency is narrowed and so on. But to attack her that she cannot produce a husband, I think is to get into the gutter [deep, deep] deep into the sewer. I feel shocked and sad. And you know why I feel so bad? Because I have a lot of respect for this gentleman called George Andah...I'm so shocked that this fine gentleman has sunk to this level." |
