The youth of Andani have descended heavily on the Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, over his comment that the Andanis can not blackmail the ruling NDC government.
Okudzeto Ablakwa responding to the Andanis' declaration of "No Vote" for the NDC if the murder of their overlord, the late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II, is not brought to justice and the perpetrators napped, said "As for the Andani youth who are threatening and saying that they will not vote for the NDC, I believe that as adults who have attained universal adult suffrage we make the determination on who we vote for at the personal level. I do not think that voting for anybody should be used as blackmail for which people can think they can do anything and threaten you with their votes.”
The embittered youth, in a press statement yesterday, have slammed the Honourable Minister saying the Andanis are not "fools" emphasizing that the Minister should go back to his books. According to them, they voted the ruling NDC into power on the premise that the culprits in the Ya-Na murder case will be caught and justice will take its course.
The Andanis say government has reneged on its decision to find the culprits after giving the nod in 2008.
The youth who are incensed with the Deputy Information Minister described him as an "opportunist' and are demanding an unqualified apology within 48 hours.
Below is the whole statement:
We write with pain and anger over the inept response from government through the Hon. Deputy Minister of information (Okudzeto Ablakwa) to the Andani Youth of Tamale on the issue of Justice for the late overlord of Dagbon.
Okudzeto Ablakwa stated that “As for the Andani youth who are threatening and saying that they will not vote for the NDC, I believe that as adults who have attained universal adult suffrage we make the determination on who we vote for at the personal level. I do not think that voting for anybody should be used as blackmail for which people can think they can do anything and threaten you with their votes.”
Yes, it is true that Andanis have the right to determine who to vote at our personal levels but we (Andanis) are not fools to vote in a vacuum. We vote on issues; issues that affect us. We did not vote for the NDC to appoint small boys into government as a means to educating themselves.
It is about a decade now when our King was murdered in cold-blood. We all know what happened on that sorrowful day of 27th March 2002. The NPP government covered-up using the Wauku Commission of Enquiry and the subsequent white paper issued.
Even though the Wauku Commission recommended that Yidana Sugri and Iddrisu Gyamfo be charged for Murder because they were seen on 27th March holding severed parts of the late Ya-Na, Yakubu Andani II, soon after his killing and "who should be presumed to have killed the Ya-Na", the NDC party disagreed with the entire report confirming our suspicion.
The NDC therefore stated in their 2008 manifesto in item 9 under Law and Justice that they will “Set up a truly non-partisan, competent independent commission on the murder of the Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II and his elders – for long lasting peace in Ghana”. We all know that this has not been done.
Okudzeto should go and read the NDC manifesto before he opens his mouth wide on this issue. Okudzeto is clearly not a leader who even deserves to be in Parliament; not even to represent any group in this country.
Okudzeto is only an opportunist and would not care if the NDC loses power in 2012 and can afford with such responses. After all, Okudzeto has already stated that he will survive for 102 years with NDC in opposition.
He said on metro TV good morning Ghana show hosted by Randy Abbey that “its amazing people continue to think that some of us will be uncomfortable when the NDC loses political power. But some of them forget that some of us are into business. I will be able to survive for 102 years with the NDC in opposition” – Okudzeto Ablakwa (showing his business documents to the TV camera).
We give Okudzeto Ablakwa 48 hours to apologize to the Andani Elders and people or refrain from commenting on issues concerning Dagbon.
Thank you.

CPP flag bearer can wait…we need to organise the executives first- Ivor Greenstreet
Ivor Greenstreet, the General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has pledged his party’s readiness for the 2012 general elections but says it behooves on the Convention People's Party to critically address their concerns and ensure a united front within the party.
The CPP General Secretary outlined that though the party has recorded poor election results in the previous elections, the transitions so far made within the party is a step to bridge the gap to victory.
He stated that when the party's national executive board including the polling station executives is properly coordinated, such attempt can generate good results for the party in the upcoming 2012 elections.
Although certain functionaries of the CPP have proposed that the party concentrates on the Presidential seat, according to the CPP General Secretary, it is prudent for the party to firstly tackle their differences and also effectively organize itself before they march forward into the Presidential race.
Speaking on the party's delay in electing a flag bearer, he was of the view the postponement of the Presidential candidacy by the leadership is aimed at organizing the party from the grass root in order to promote unity.
He however admitted that the party should have elected a flag bearer during the national congress in September but added the decision to withhold the voting in of a Presidential candidate is crucial to strengthening the frontiers of the party.
He stated that the party's functionaries together with the new executive council have held meetings to discuss the ways that they can effect the necessary changes in order to make sure there is harmony within the party.
Despite several comments by political analysts and the general public that the Nkrumahist party is dawdling their process to elect a flag bearer, the General Secretary of the CPP believes that it is in the best interest of the party to shift the election of their flag bearership till the party is well-organized with its setbacks dealt with.
Ivor Greenstreet, in an interview with Xfm 95.1, indicated that the CPP constitution makes provision for new national offices to be elected in the first year after the national congress.
Alluding to the party's failure during the previous elections, he said that the party is looking for a middle ground to appropriately vote in a Presidential candidate without creating any loophole for a similar occurrence in the subsequent elections.
"Let us make sure that this time we are properly on the ground, properly organized, properly understand the direction of the party; the focus of the party...” this he said will enhance the progress of the party.
He admonished all CPP members to ensure that the party is firmly grounded and explained that what is key to the party now is internal unity which he believed will make the party a formidable force to reckon with.

Volta and Brong Ahafo Universities now schools under trees- Sammy Awuku
The Deputy Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Samuel Awuku, says President Mills' action year is long overdue as Ghanaians await the time to cast out his administration.
He expressed categorically that the NDC government will be ousted out of power during the 2012 elections, hence, giving them an ultimatum to fulfil their promises to Ghanaians by December this year.
He said that President Mills has only paid a lipservice to his "action year" promises emphasizing that what the NDC government seeks to do is to subvert the progress of the country. He outlined that the Mills' administration in their bid to properly execute the action year has proven otherwise that they are completely incapable of honouring their promises to Ghanaians.
He indicated that the pledge by the ruling NDC government to set up Universities at the Volta Region and the Brong Ahafo Region has fallen on rocky ground, therefore, describing it as a "mirage". He told Abena Asiedua, hostess of X fm's morning show "Bigbite", that the two universities have since become defunct and "an addition to the schools under trees."
President Mills last February declared this year the action year where Ghanaians will virtually see a major improvement in infrastructure and a vast development of the economy. On December 2, 2010, the President reiterated his government's committment to reviving the economy but the NPP Deputy Communications Director explains that the Mills-led government has failed to build a haven for the economy.
Citing the failures of the ruling NDC government, Samuel Awuku added that the Mills' administration has shown gross incompetence that they can't lead the country and implored Ghanaians to test the performance of President Mills from his past as a Vice President.
He further ascribed President Mills' achievement ever since he resume office to naught saying that President Mills after resuming power dispatched some cars to his loyalists as a campaign strategy towards 2012.
According to him, President Mills together with the members of Get Atta Mills Endorsed (GAME) has always been loud about winning the Presidential slot at any cost. "...they said they will do everything to win the flagbearership race."
Samuel Awuku intimated that several projects that have been commissioned by the President were started and partly or fully established under the leadership of the Ex-Presidents J.A Kuffour and J.J Rawlings.
He was therefore optimistic the Presidential slot, during the 2012 elections, will rest on the lap of the New Patriotic Party stressing that "If President Mills cannot achieve his promises by end of December 2011; he's lost the 2012 elections."

David Cameron is using aid threats to enhance his ambitions - Dr Vladimir Antwi-Danso
An International relations expert, Dr. Vladimir Antwi Danso, has commended President John Mills over his stance on homosexuality in the face of UK aid threats.
The Prime Minister of UK, David Cameron issued this threat in support of fundamental human rights, therefore, asking African countries not to stifle the rights of those who engage in homosexuality. He said that any country that prohibits gay rights stand the risk of having her aid suspended but this call on the African countries has taken bitter sides.
Several African countries including Ghana have lambasted the UK Prime Minister for suggesting such a "ridiculous" thing.
President John Evans Atta Mills in a reaction to the British condition for supporting the country set the record straight saying "I, as president, will never initiate or support any attempt to legalise homosexuality in Ghana." This stance by the President has received many commendations with his political cohorts counting their luck on it.
Even though some people have argued that the gays have their rights and it behooves on the government and the state to secure the safety of the gays, Dr. Antwi Danso says the practice of homosexuality is unacceptable and must not be encouraged.
He opined that Ghana's culture and tradition frowns on this practice and acceptance of it will be detrimental to the development of the country. He believed David Cameron is using the country as a "political ploy" to win the favour of other western countries.
"David Cameron I believe is using this only as a political ploy to enhance his chances in either elections or whatever it is as if he is popularizing the values that the west holds", the International Commentator told Xfm's “Let's talk politics” host, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah.
He expressed surprise over the British Prime Minister's temerity and accused UK of dismissing her Defense Minister on the understanding that he was fraternizing with his gay partner. He asserted that Ghana firmly resists the repression from the UK Prime Minister adding that David Cameron's statement is "incredible" and demands a total riddance.
He advised the government to seek aid elsewhere if the UK economy will only give aid with strings attached and stated that it is about time the country mobilizes revenue internally to support the economy.
He also commended President J.E.A Mills for revealing the position of Ghana and insisted the country abolishes such practice.

NPP committed to free and fair elections too- Jake Obetsebi Lamptey back
The opposition New Patriotic Party’s National Chairman, Jake Obetsebi lamptey, says his party is committed to ensuring a free and fair election in 2012 and therefore will not condone any act of violence during the elections.
President John Mills yesterday served notice that his government will not countenance any form of violence in the 2012 general elections in reaction to NPP’S flag bearer, Nana Akufo Addo’s charge to the Electoral Commission to conduct credible elections in 2012, failure of which the possibility of violent elections.
But President Mills told journalists in Accra Nana Addo’s comments were in bad state.
Jake Obetsebi Lamptey who spoke to Abena Asiedua on Xfm's Morning show "Big bite" supported that the Electoral Commission (EC) conducts an electronic verification which according to him will make the biometric registration credible.
He believed the electronic verification is the surest way to ensure that eligible electorates vote once and also clear off any double registration. "The Biometric register and verification stroke authentication is a major step in improving our whole electoral process", he prompted.
He expressed his party's support for the electronic verification and charged the Electoral Commission to mobilize the necessary funds to make the process a successful one. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey intimated that the EC lacks financial support for the verification system and urged the government to provide money for the commission to carry out the verification process.
Responding to comments by the NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, who stressed that the NDC is not committed to the electronic verification system, the NPP National Chairman explained that this process when successfully conducted will promote a transparent and fair election 2012; wondering why the NDC will kick against the system.
He added that any act of boycotting the verification process will call for a complete abrogation of the whole biometric registration.

Do you still have to vote?
“Ghana, our beloved country is free forever…” says the one-time President with a vision, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Today, as I observe the sudden transitions that Ghana has made, I begin to wonder if indeed the nation is free and if what our visionary President in the first Republic declared was just a mere prediction with no substance or he really meant it without mincing words. It is indeed an inconvertible fact and truism that Ghana has over the years passed through the claws of several governments, from revolution to revolution. But is it just enough to make the country a paradise to live in?
Fifty-four years down the line and Ghana is still grappling with the same challenges that could have been avoided but are not dealt with until they explode. Each and every moment, we tend to be aggressive talkers but not impressive doers. Sometimes too, we tend to be good directors but awful actors. I think someone by now is getting bored with this entire proverbial parable but that’s supposed to be just an introduction.
Now, I would like to ask an intrigued reader a question; do you still call Accra, a Millennium City? If you ask me, I would say “think twice” because it is only a monument with a bold inscription “Accra; The Millennium City”. We seem to embrace our capital with this ceremonial name and overlook the true nature of the capital city. I strongly think we are just deceived and blindfolded by the beauty of Accra while our scary challenges stare at us.
One major challenge to this most beautiful city is the very problematic traffic congestion. The traffic congestion in the city is gradually swallowing up the entire city as many more places are daily affected and many more people are extremely stuck in the snarl-up for several hours before reaching their destinations.
Nowadays, people wake up only to meet a long tail of cars stuck in almost three-hour traffic congestion and one can virtually read “upset” on their faces. As if nothing can be done to eradicate such avoidable situation, people accept to remain unconcerned and give those who call themselves “our leaders” a breathing space.
The Major of Accra Metropolitan Assembly (A.M.A), Alfred Okoe Vanderpuiye, once decided to slip on his reflector and direct traffic as a gesture to be forever remembered when he could have pened down realistically better ideas to rescue us from such situation.
Although, the Major received a rapturous applause from people who thought he deserved it, I didn’t think and still don’t think there was any need for such waste. I personally did not opt for a Major who directs traffic for some days but can’t deal with the cause of such deadlock. Do we make any progress when people are caught in traffic for hours when they could have churned productivity out of those wasted hours?
Roads are constructed and what seems to be a blessing turns into misfortune for the country. Instead of constructing proper and long-lasting roads, our leaders rather pay huge sums of money to contractors and sit back thinking that the contractors would conjure better roads from heaven.
Did we vote for leaders who are only programmed to wear classy tuxedos and sit in the Parliament giving long speeches without actions? Once a while, we see the Honourable Minister for Roads and Highways, Joe Gidisu, paying a courtesy call on the contractors who always make available plans on board to show the country that they are assiduously executing their duties but after the one-time ministerial visit, return to their “tortoise” road construction.
I sometimes wonder if our Ministers and Members of Parliament really ply some of the roads in the country or rather board a flight since they seem not bothered by what is slowing down the progress of the economy.
After screaming and responding “Ye…Ye…” in Parliament, I thought they would cut down on their trips abroad and act out their promises to the ordinary Ghanaian. Accra which is persistently perceived to be Ghana has experienced recurrences of water shortages but has anyone taken the time to look at the seven days splashing of water from the fountain in the heart of Accra?
I mean when you walk around Circle, please take your time and observe the fountain there and you will one day attest to this truth. We have a fountain that flows seven days and splashes water seven days but little is done about our water shortages. Ghana has a magnificent Akosombo dam which sees no need in reserving water for the future but only pours out its rage whenever it is so filled up to the brim, yet we still battle with water problems.
There have been several torrential rainstorms and uncountable flooding incidents and I hoped by now, a certain leader would have slipped off his or her political cassock to rather find a possible solution to this life threat. But what they seem to do is sit idle and always defend their political parties as if flood has a political head.
We always complain about our poor drainage systems but does flood understand English? Why do we know the right thing but wait till the time that we will move in a convoy to shut the flood up? Our leaders must wake up from their slumber and know that this is not a dream.
People lose their items worth millions of cedis and others lose their loved ones together with their enemies during flood situations, yet we think this is just a natural disaster and we can’t avoid it. If it is so inevitable, then why did our President escape being flooded or why didn’t he dry his precious items in the sun because of this natural disaster?
I think I am asking so many questions when we are searching for answers and realistic solutions with people who are ready to betray their governments and parties just to save lives and also contribute immensely to the development of the country.
Not long ago, we saw an angel sent down from the United States of America to this country and huge billboards running into millions were raised to commemorate his coming.
This angel only came to reinforce what we already know by reminding us with the idea “let us build strong institutions” and after his departure, the former Minister of Sports, Alhaji Mubarak Mutaka, was alleged to have spent a whooping amount of money also counting into millions on diapers and his baby.
Few months, maybe a year later, we entered into an agreement with STX company to provide thirty-thousand housing capacity for long deserving men and women in service but this move turned into a big soccer match between the opponents and proponents of the deal. And after long days of infighting, the deal has suffered a major flop but our concerned leaders still hope that the STX deal will be revitalized as if that is the only way out.
Recently, doctors went on strike leaving several lives at risk and reminded Ghanaians and patients of furthering their education for seven years as if somebody forced anybody to spend such long years when they could have resorted to few years such as four or fewer such as two years.
We also had the President of the Ghana Medical Association reminding Ghanaians of the daily and weekly loss of lives at the various hospitals as if he and his cohorts did not also know that doctors daily live on meager salary.
I do not say this to attack doctors because in my lifetime I have come across several doctors and I can bet anybody that doctors’ work is very tedious, complicated and challenging but is that a fair basis for somebody to lose his or her parent when a doctor could have treated him or her to stay alive? Sometimes, it is really hard to talk about it since we all know that sickness is one fastest way to the grave.
But instead of the President acting as President but not as a party head, and our Ministers and other leaders acting as indeed leaders of the country, I guess they forgot themselves and thought they were just like me and any other ordinary citizen whose voice is never heard. I believe somebody might be anxious about me being this hard on our leaders but when we have leaders who appear to be systemically dormant, I think it is worth it to shake them up to face the reality.
Let’s return to what I was saying; instead of our leaders acting as leaders and dealing with the situation in a decorous and proactive manner, they rather ignited the fire with petrol which hardened the hearts of the unwilling strike-prone doctors. In as much as I agree that the doctors were holding the whole nation and the lives of the innocent people to ransom, I earnestly think our leaders starting with the President could have done better than resorting to blame tactics.
I don’t really understand why almost every government tends to blame the previous government for the country’s troubles and repercussions when these are the same reasons why they were voted into power. In fact, our God-fearing President did his best to resolve the impasse between the doctors and the nation but his best was just a teaspoon. Being God-fearing does not necessarily mean you should be so lenient and calm when Jesus one day even lashed out traders from the holy temple.
Furthermore, a Deputy Minister calls for the arrest of police officers for committing a lip blunder against him and the police officers’ conduct or misconduct is prejudged by the police service even before the police officers were taken through queries and investigation.
Let us assume without admitting that the police officers indeed called our dear Deputy Minister “Stupid”, how reasonable is it for a person of his caliber to be insulted if nothing struck anything? And especially for a man who virtually insulted anybody because he has risen to the top and would never be ousted out of power. Please, give me a break.
Are our leaders exhibiting their leadership skills or rather showing us how strong they can be with power?
Now to the concluding part of this boring article…in fact, our leaders are so boring and no wonder this article is also boring.
Recently, a magazine with the name “African Watch” (I don’t really know where it came from but it has been making waves though in the media outlets and the country) did a Political Performance Index about the Ministers and Members of Parliament.
Some scored higher grades while others had the shock of their lives. One specific bigwig who sailed through to the top was the Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP for Kwabenya, Hon. Mike Ocquaye.I agree to the grading point that he attained in the magazine and in fact he is not really bad in terms of performance but I don’t also believe he has done much for his own constituency.
The bad and porous nature of the roads at Kwabenya will attest to this claim since apart from the place being affected by heavy traffic congestion, it is highly saddled with very poor roads featuring potholes.
I guess a reader is asking himself or herself why I have hammered on the lackadaisical behaviours of those who are supposed to lead the country but have not provided any measures to curb it. Well, it is because I happen to be just a concerned citizen whose voice is never heard.
Yesterday, it was the turn of the former President J.A.Kuffour…today; it is His Excellency J.E.A Mills who is dancing to the tune…who is next tomorrow?
Ghana is so sick…no wonder the people within are weak.

AMA demolishes structures on waterways
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly(AMA) has today demolished some structures at Odawna in Accra to serve as deterrent to people who build along waterways.
The demolition exercise commenced yesterday at 9:00 am and several structures, mostly kiosks, were razed down. This exercise is to get rid the Odawna river of filth and also discourage people from erecting structures along waterways.
Philip Paa Lamptey, the Head of Rapid Response at AMA, says the assembly will continue the demolition exercise at various parts of Accra where unauthorised buildings have been set up.
He explained that the assembly prohibits people from building at inappropriate places, particularly along waterways. He was of the view that such practices could threaten the lives of people and as such the assembly will not tolerate any individual who disobeys its directives.
The AMA Rapid Response Head urged Ghanaians to desist from supporting people who disregard the right thing but resort to improper activities. He further added that the assembly will remove the heap of debris in the Odawna river immediately after the structures are completely demolished.
However, victims of the ongoing demolition exercise are displeased with the prompt approach by the AMA to obliterate their structures claiming they were not served with any notice beforehand.

Atlantic Lobsters and Dolphin Ltd denies Racism allegation
Is Racism a talk of the past or rather something that was lingering around the African continent to come back at us? This is a question that some Ghanaians have been asking themselves as the Atlantic Lobsters and Dolphin Ltd, operators of an "infant" club at Osu is alleged to have disallowed a certain Ghanaian lady an entry into the club because of her black colour.
The lady, who gave her name as Elizabeth, is reported to have gone to the club which was recently opened as an extension to the Atlantic Lobsters and Dolphin Ltd which deals in serving seafood. According to this embittered lady, she together with her white Spanish friend reached the entrance of the club only for her white colleague to be given a membership register to join the club but she was shown the exit because she is black. She quoted "No, it is for white people only" as the utterance of a man who stood at the entrance of the club.
This seemingly racist statement has recently stirred the rage of some Ghanaians who share the same belief that this company could be perpetuating racism in their own country.
Meanwhile Marco Ranaldi, a worker at the Atlantic Lobsters and Dolphin Ltd, has debunked this allegation saying it is a complete fabrication.
Speaking to Xfm 95.1, he said the club is operational to all persons irrespective of their colour, sex, age or race. He intimated that both blacks and whites patronize the club and as a result it would be unreasonable for any of the club's operators to reject a person because he or she is black.
He described the allegation as baseless saying "we should be fools to exclude anybody...majority of people here are Ghanaians so why, we should do something like that". Despite his denial, he however confirmed that before a person can enter the club, he or she must be a member with a membership card. His justification was that the members of the club are taught "how to preserve, cook and serve fish".
He stated that only members are permitted to eat from the club, therefore, adding that their unusual kinds of delicacies might have been a turn off to Ghanaians and other black people, hence, leaving people with the impression that the company is discriminating against the black community.
But this explanation seems to be taken with a pinch of salt by a section of the Ghanaian society as they push forward to find out which party is telling the truth.

AMA puts in place measures to forestall flooding in Accra
Numo Blafo, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, says the assembly is working assiduously to avoid any future recurrence of flood in the Accra metropolis.
According to him, the AMA has since last week Tuesday embarked on a massive clean-up exercise to get rid of the debris that were left as a result of the flood which claimed about 12 lives and threw several people into complete shock.
Speaking on Xfm's Big bite show this Monday, he disclosed that the assembly has put in place measures to mitigate the harmful consequences of the flood and guard against diseases which are associated with filth.
He warned people against cholera which emanates as a result of the heap of refuse especially during flooding situations and implored people to protect themselves against the disease. He was of the view that when people engage in hygienic conditions and desist from dumping solid waste into gutters and drains, the country will be devoid of cholera and floods.
Numo Blafo said that even though the assembly has constructed drainage systems to limit the impact of floods in Accra, this objective cannot be achieved without the cooperation of Ghanaians. He indicated to Xfm 95.1 that inappropriate human activities are a primary cause of floods and therefore believed it is about time Ghanaians become amenable towards the AMA and its operations.
He also outlined that the assembly is embarking on a "house to house" public education to help people undertake steps to avoid the possibility of being inundated by future heavy rainstorms.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Accra Zone of Zoomlion, Robert Tetteh Coleman, says the filth created by last week's flood is "unimaginable" as the company has so far dispatched 120 trucks to various parts of Accra. This exercise he says is to clear the refuse put in a pile on the streets of Accra.

Demolition exercises to be rejuvenated to curtail flooding-AMA
The Chairman of the Environmental Committee of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Philip Lamptey has partly blamed yesterday's devastating flood on the negligence of people establishing structures along rivers and other flood-prone areas.
He stated that the setting up of buildings and other structures at unauthorized and inappropriate areas tend to cause these floods and cautioned Ghanaians to turn away from such practices.
In an interview on X fm's Big bite show this Thursday, Philip Lamptey keenly identified that the lives of people should always be protected and that any action which is detrimental to their living conditions must be eradicated.
He also ascribed the abrupt flooding incidents across several parts of Accra to the changes in the climate which have made it almost unpredictable.
The six-hour downpour inundated several places claiming about nine lives while others lost their items worth millions of cedis. The Chairman of the Environmental Committee of the AMA disclosed that the Accra Metropolitan Assembly together with the Natural Disaster and Management Organization (NADMO) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has put in place measures to curb the rippling effects of the flood.
He indicated that the Environmental Committee has since dispatched task force from the Rapid Response Unit of the AMA to various affected areas to get rid of the debris that resulted out of the flood. He therefore urged the public to cooperate with the AMA as they embark on this eradication exercise.
"The cries from the public always keep on disturbing us that saying we are destroying people's things but meanwhile all these structures are on the waterway. It is time public has to understand what is happening because we can't sit down and wait for the rain to destroy our things."
He also disputed the claim that the AMA has abandoned the demolition exercise which was aimed at eliminating buildings from unauthorised and inappropriate places but asserted that the exercise will be rejuvenated to avoid any future occurrences.
Philip Lamptey admonished Ghanaians to do the right thing and added that plans are far ahead to support the flood victims.

JJ Rawlings lauds Gaddafi but says he made a mistake for his 42 years of reign
The death of Libya's former leader, Muammar Muhammad Al-Gaddafi, has some time now taken over the media and still lingers around the African continent with several people thrown into shock and others expressing their mixed feelings about the treatment meted out to the Libyan leader before he passed away.
Colonel Gaddafi's death has raised fierce criticisms and comments from people across Africa and the next person to add his voice is the former President Flt. Lt. J.J Rawlings.
Former President J.J. Rawlings has lauded the deceased leader, therefore, touting him as a man who had the Libyans’ interest wholeheartedly and brought much fortune to Libya. According to him, Muammar Gaddafi was a good and principled leader who set proper structures to streamline the livelihood of his people.
He further declared that, under the leadership of Col. Gaddafi, Libya underwent a massive transformation which outstripped its boundaries to benefit other countries including Ghana.
He was speaking at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana, Legon to climax the annual SRC week celebrations on Friday.
He said that the Libyan economy gave women the chance to be enrolled into the military and head offices within the military. Likening Col. Gaddafi to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first President, he underlined that the Libyans were provided with virtually free accommodation, electricity and education. He also stressed that Gaddafi's reign gave the black community much freedom and tagged him as a leader who believed in the power of the masses.
Despite his 42 years of rule, J.J Rawlings believed the Libyan Godfather committed a mistake, hence, quoting the scripture "Man should not live by bread alone" to support his premise.
"The mistake he made was that even as he talked it, preached it, provided it; he just could not let go of the empowerment of the people. He still held onto the controls", the former president indicated.
He explained that the Libyan deceased leader was disquiet about the idea that the masses' power could be undermined and held his service in high esteem to the people. President Rawlings disclosed that people's allegiance is bought as their right of choice dwindles and emphasized that people should be on guard and flash out any form of dehumanization.
He described the execution of Col. Gaddafi "more painful and inhuman" and chided the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, for her supposed look and contentment over the death of the Libyan leader.
He expressed no surprise over the execution saying "if you use force or violence and it does not have a cleansing effect, then it will end up perpetuating injustice. If you use force and it does not give justice, you will be perpetuating injustice".

Gaddafis death raises mixed reactions from people-VOX POP
Following recent news about the death of Brother leader Muammar Muhammad Al-Gaddafi, some people have raised red flags over the way Colonel Gaddafi was killed while others ask why the westerners played active role in ousting a leader who has brought much fortune to the libyans.
Colonel Gaddafi was killed during a fierce siege at his stronghold, Sirte. Reports say the libyan leader was shot several times in a NATO-led airstrike.
Colonel Gaddafi took over office in 1969 and since then the "Brother leader", as he is popularly called, has reigned in libya without any hope of relinquishing power.
His death comes after the libyans rose against his authority and have been waiting for his day of doom.
Reports about the capture of Africa's would-be "King of Kings" were received with much jubilation from the people of libya as the National Transitional Council (NTC) takes over the mantle of restoring the country.
X fm interacted with some people on the streets of Osu and discovered the sudden death of the libyan leader has plunged several people into total shock.

Nothing has changed in the NDC- DFP National Treasurer
It appears the intense uproar against the merger of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) and the National Democratic Party (NDC) will not end anytime soon as the next person to register her dissatisfaction is the former National Treasurer of the DFP, Ruby Aba Folson, who says the decision by the party to join the NDC was not collectively taken.
She said, in an interview with Xfm 95.1, that the DFP executives did not involve all the stakeholders of the party before their final migration to their mother party. According to her, she dissented her party's decision and willingness to smoke the peace pipe with its parent party, NDC, on the premise that the NDC harassed them during the Koforidua Congress in 2006.
Her explanation comes after a section of the DFP, yesterday, held a press conference spelling out their disagreement with the decision by the life patron of the party, Dr. Obed Asamoah, to tie the knot with the NDC.
She stated that the move by the DFP doesn't restrain the members from opting out of the bond. She expanded further that a greater number of the DFP members at the various constituencies are opposed to Dr. Obed Asamoah's eagerness to return to the NDC.
The DFP former National Treasurer intimated that the executives and the members of the party couldn't reach a consensus to support their movement to the NDC. "The decision made by the executives of the Democratic Freedom Party which is the DFP that they are going back to their mother party which is the NDC. To me, it wasn't a consensual kind of agreement"
She pledged her commitment to her "mother party", the New Patriotic Party, saying that the circumstances that led to the formation of the DFP have not changed.
Ruby Aba Folson underlined that the harassment that was impinged on the DFP still lingers in the NDC and asked; what has changed in the NDC?

Nana Akomea advocates best farming practices on World Food Day
As the country marks World Food Day, today, under the theme "Greening Ghana with coconut", the New Patriotic Party Communications Director, Nana Akomea says, even though government seems to be committed to boosting food supply in the country, there has not been adequate support for the sustenance of food and crops farming.
He indicated that sixty percent of the country's food farmers engage in peasant farming and their use of blunt farm implements makes it difficult for them to compete with their foreign competitors.
Touching on the importation of farm produce, Nana Akomea told host of the big bite on Xfm 95.1, Abena Asiedua, that the country's defunct producing factories should be resuscitated to bridge the gap between the local food farmers and their competitors from the foreign countries.
He also proposed that the government should cut down on the importation of food crops and believed this intervention by a competent government can stimulate a larger supply of food crops into the economy and encourage the domestic farmers to meet the competitive market.
Explaining further, the NPP Communications Director said that guaranteed prices should be imposed on the food crops and also suggested that the government should adopt a different and refined approach in resolving the economic food crises. This, he assured, can eradicate the daunting challenges facing the peasant farmers.
"We need bold, decisive, courageous, transformational leadership in this country which will also apply to food farming", he said. He added that the inadequate storage facilities in addition to the less support for the production of food are a major setback to food farming in the country.
Nana Akomea pledged his party's commitment to supporting local food farming on a large scale which is intended to give the farmers a relief and better improvement of their farming conditions.
He lauded the Ex-President J.A. Kuffour for his role in ensuring that the peasant food farmers experience a major boost in the production of food and crops.
Price swings, upswings in particular, represent a major threat to food security in developing countries. Hardest-hit are the poor. According to the World Bank, in 2010-2011 rising food costs pushed nearly 70 million people into extreme poverty.
“FOOD PRICES – FROM CRISIS TO STABILITY” has been chosen as this year’s World Food Day theme to shed some light on this trend and what can be done to mitigate its impact on the most vulnerable.
In Ghana, the day is being marked under the theme; “Greening Ghana with Coconut” to address the destruction being caused by the “Cape Saint Paul Wilt” disease in coconut plantations, especially along the coast.
The disease has destroyed large acres of coconut plantations along the coasts of Ghana and has seriously affected the livelihood of most coconut farmers in the region.
A deputy Minister of Agriculture in charge of crops, Yaw Effah-Baafi said coconut has so many nutritional values and economic importance, and therefore local farmers needed to be educated and supported so as to help to derive the maximum benefit from the crop.

Richard Quashigah accuses NPP of inciting labour front unrests
The NDC Propaganda Secretary, Richard Quashigah, has accused the opposition New Patriotic Party of plotting to cramp the style of the ruling government in order to collapse its "better Ghana agenda".
He stated categorically that the New Patriotic Party has compelled some people in certain agencies to agitate against the government.
"We know that the NPP has been going around trying to press some buttons within the various associations, worker groups and all that, trying to get people to make the state ungovernable", he said.
He was also swift to add that the NPP is scheming in order to discredit the ruling government.
Alluding to recent comments by the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, he said Jake Obetsebi lamptey sought to incite Ivorian Akan rebels to wage war in the country and claimed the NPP is not committed to the welfare of Ghanaians.
Richard Quashigah was speaking on Xfm’s big bite show Thursday morning.
Touching on the recent strike action by doctors in the country, Richard Quashigah appealed to the doctors to keep calm since the incumbent government is making the necessary efforts to resolve the standoff. He disclosed that there are limited resources to effect the Single Spine Salary Structure.
The SSSS was initiated to regulate the emoluments and salaries of workers in the economy but has suffered some financial glitches. This as a result has posed several complications to the implementation of the salary scheme.
Richard Quashigah accused the previous government under the leadership of J.A.Kuffour, of mismanaging the coffers of the economy, adding the introduction of the Single Spine Salary Structure has quadrupled government's debt.
The NDC Propaganda Secretary said the government has the doctors' grievances at heart and is working towards addressing their concerns to ensure that the strike is abrogated. He was empathetic about the plight of patients and implored the doctors to resume work in order to save the lives of the innocuous patients. He declared that the NPP only paid a lip service to the SSSS and left the scheme hollow.
Richard Quashigah indicated that the Labour Commission is holding a meeting with the Fair Wages and Salaries commission in order to resolve the impasse.

NDC DFP merger is a mirage
An NDC activist, Brogya Gyamfi Ernest, says the merger between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) is “only a mirage”.
He said the DFP wishes to join the ruling political party but there is no explicit basis for such action stating that the NDC operates within the rigors of the party’s constitution.
The NDC activist mentioned Articles 8 and 9, which spell out the membership and affiliation processes into the party and categorically said the sudden unity between both parties defies the constitutional provisions under these articles.
Brogya Gyamfi Ernest was reacting to the recent move by the Democratic Freedom Party to the National Democratic Party. This action by the DFP has recently become a vexed issue raising doubts about the intentions of the party.
Brogya Gyamfi Ernest said Dr. Obed Asamoah, the life patron of DFP, can only claim to be part of the NDC when the DFP has fulfilled the prerequisites under Article 8. He said the merger is not established in the party’s constitution, hence, annulling the DFP’s attempt to unite with the mother party.
He recounted that the constitution entreats any party or an organization which seeks to fuse with the NDC to firstly establish its membership with the party’s branch. The branch is anticipated to accept the membership before any party can be constitutionally approved. According to him, the DFP has failed to meet this requirement.
Brogya Gyamfi Ernest, in an interview with Xfm 95.1, emphasized that the mandate to a political party to merge with the ruling NDC solely lies with the National Congress. He intimated that no other committee within the party can assume such authority.
He refuted the bond between the NDC General Secretary, Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, and Dr. Obed Asamoah which was marked by the holstering of the NDC national flag.
The NDC activist also confuted the possibility of DFP attaining 2 positions within the National Executive Council and 1 position at the Regional and Constituency levels.
He explained that the party’s constitution provides no room for any disbanded political party to become a member of the NDC except through the laid-down constitutional processes.
He alluded to Dr. Obed Asamoah’s reluctance to throw his weight behind the incumbent President Mills and doubted his significant input into the party.
He revealed that in 2004, an Ashanti delegation comprising the present Deputy National Youth Organizer, Babara Serwaa Asamoah and the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Samuel Ofoso Ampofo met with Dr. Obed Asamoah who was then the national chairman of the party to solicit his assistance.
But Dr. Obed Asamoah refused to make any impact in the campaign process on his understanding that the flag bearer, Professor E.A. Mills, could not amass adequate money to support the party for victory.
He also claimed that Dr. Obed Asamoah and the DFP were the violent people in the party and their separation was a good riddance by the NDC. He cautioned the NDC about the entry of the DFP saying the move does not make any significant bearing on the party’s progress.

Atwima Nwabiagya Assembly Members pass vote of no confidence
Some Assembly members of the Atwima Nwabiagya district have threatened to pass a vote of no confidence on their District Chief Executive for what they say are cases of misconduct on the part of the District Chief Executive.
The agitated Assembly members disclosed that the District Chief Executive has been disregarding the District’s procedure in awarding contract at the assembly. They cited he awards contract without the notice of the members of the Assembly.
They further accused him of misappropriation of funds and poorly administering the institutions set off by the assembly.
The members implored the government not to renege on their decision to kick him out of office. They said such misdemeanor dents the performance of the Assembly.
A member of the Assembly, Hon. Enoch Afriyie, endorsed the concerns of the Assembly and called for an emergency meeting. He confirmed the allegation that the District Chief Executive had snatched away a generator supposed to serve the needs of the Assembly.
Hon. Enoch Afriyie stressed they would match the District Chief Executive boot for boot to ensure his removal from office.
The Assembly has forwarded a document to the Electoral Commission and the District Coordination Council of the Atwima Nwabigya to corroborate their claims and appealed to the two regulatory entities to give their misgivings a maximum attention.
