Knowledge Society is a society that has to do with a society in which the conditions for generating knowledge and processing information have been substantially changed by a technological revolution focused on information processing, knowledge generation, and information technologies.

Manuel Castells

The idea or concept of knowledge societies includes a dimension of social, cultural, economical, political and institutional transformation, and a more pluralistic and developmental perspective. So, the concept of knowledge societies is preferable to that of the information society because it captures the complexity and dynamism of the changes taking place.The knowledge in question is important not only for economic growth but also for empowering and developing all sectors of society.

Abdul Waheed Khan {general sub-director of UNESCO for ¬Communication and Information}
