SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES OF THE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY THEORY AND THE LIBERTARIAN THEORY.

It is obvious to note that the libertarian theory vastly differs from the social responsibility theory, yet there are certain vital similarities that encompass both theories. The idea of progress, democracy and the modern trend of living outlines the rise of the libertarian theory where the media is given some sort of freedom to operates without state restriction. The social responsibility theory spells out freedom but it is much concerned with the duty of shaping to be better. In fact to state categorically the smilarities between the two theories, it can be seen from a perspective that the following exist in both theories.
a)Freedom is prevalent in both theories without any restriction from the state.
b)Furthermore, they both define the same major functions of the media which are transmission of information and the adoption of a forum for disparate views.
c)Both theories also provide an avenue for the establishment of private media due to capitalism.Since both theories operate in the capitalist system, many private media houses are being established.
d)Also in both theories, the media serves as a watchdog and supervises the society from certain abuses.
e)The notion of free press and democracy in the libertarian and social responsibility theories is falsehood since the media is faced with prosecution.
However, amidst the similarities, there are certain differences between the two theories.
i)In as much as the social responsibility theory is expected to be accountable to the society in its performance, the libertarian theory flouts accountability.
ii)Also there is self-censorship in the social responsibility theory.Prior to this, the social responsibility theory is suppressed in the performance of its functions not to abuse the society.Unlike the libertarian theory, there is no such thing as self-censorship,so the media can feed the society with abusive things without any suppression or restriction internally.
iii)Additionally, even though in both theories, there is objectivity, the social responsibility theory is subjective to the media in the interest of the state or state authority.
iv)Last but least, under the social responsibility theory, there is thorough regulation. It is hard to notice that the libertarian theory is taken through such regulation.
v)Finally, the social responsibility is also concerned with the code of ethics governing the various media houses. In contrast, the libertarian theory doesn't respect such code of ethics.

SMILE OR GRIN.

DESCRIPTIVE DISCOURSE.
As she mentioned my nomenclature with her soothing voice. It echoed in my ears and sounded as a shuddering thunder. The words pierced through my heart, filled me with great affection. At once I thought I was an invincible Hercules but her cooing voice which supported the words she uttered, melted my soul and mellowed my heart.
Immediately, I decided to steal a glance at her but her glamorous eyeballs met with mine and she gave a grin. Her sparkling white teeth blinked and shined as the bright star, stupefied I became. Her silky black hair shoved me out of my seat and the ground turned deep as a ditch of luv, dizzy I became.
Her charming eyes beamed like the burning furnace and blindfolded me.I tippled but she decided to support me with her warming touch. Before I could say anything beyond thank you, I heard an intense knocking behind my door and I roused up to realize all was just a fantastic dream.
LUV ME AND HATE ME NOT@aameyaw.

Food For Thought.

PATRIMONIAL SYSTEM OF DEMOCRACY IN GHANA.
I sincerely appeal to government to consider solving patrimonialism in order to become an indeed equitable government.
Significantly, it is an obvious fact that Ghana, our motherland is characterized with patrimonialism which is a profound canker to the development of the economy.A theory was formulated by a staunch political scholar called Raph Milliband, which he states as "....In African countries, the absence of an economically dominant class control of the state. Therefore, the state in African countries must be taken to represent itself in the sense that those people who occupy leading positions in the state will use their friends, families, follows and clients. In fact, the democratic system of Ghana has turned into patron-client relationship which has released a lot of governmental officials inactive and not proficient.According to this theory, it is suitable for government to be occupied by top officials of economic status who are not hungry greedily people to squander the coffers of government.
Unlikely, the economy of Ghana's appointment has turned into patrons or fathers who share favours and other tangible materials to their friends, family relations, and classmates who are their clients. In return, the client offers profuse loyalty and political support. But in the patrimonial state, loyalty is kindly rewarded and disloyalty severely punished. This is a contributing factor to the poor working service of officials. It is high time,we found a solution to this problem than politicising everything.Citizens considered to be very insincere are deprived of their rights fundamentally, and those who are sincere rewarded beyond their competence.Imagine ophanages operating without national license in the name of patron-client relationship. This has made situations to lead to different situations with adverse effects.
There is dread in making a case justifiable to the law when it involves a government official,in other words, client. We tend to attribute all matters in administration to politics but it should be noted that patrimonialism has severe consequences on political and economic development in West Africa, particularly Ghana. And so long as patrimonialism remains the dominant aspect of our socio-economic and political organization in Ghana, economic measures solely can't institute development in the economy.
I, therefore, make an appeal to all Ghanaians and the government of the state to unite and fight against this menace."Unity is Strength".

Little stuff about Gabrielle

Gabrielle Union is a movie actress. She has co-starred with a lot of distinguished actors and actresses.

Union was born in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Theresa and Sylvester Union. She is African American and was raised Catholic. At the age of eight her family moved to Pleasanton, California, where she grew up and attended Foothill High School. In high school, Union was an all-star point guard and a year round athlete participating in soccer, basketball, and track. During this time, Union dated current Dallas Mavericks star point guard Jason Kidd.

Union originally intended to become a physician. She attended the University of Nebraska before moving on to Cuesta College. She eventually transferred to UCLA and earned a degree in Sociology; while studying there, she interned at a modeling agency to earn extra academic credits. She was asked by the agency to sign on with them as a new model. She needed money to pay off some college loans and debts, so she eventually agreed to become a fashion model.

Union started her acting career in minor roles. Most were in teen movies like 10 Things I Hate About You and Love and Basketball. She also appeared in the television show Sister, Sister as Vanessa. In 2000, Union landed the role of Isis in the cheerleading movie Bring it On opposite Kirsten Dunst. Bring It On helped push Union out into the mainstream and she began gaining more exposure. This led to Union being cast in the CBS television drama City of Angels as Dr. Courtney Ellis.

Union was cast in her first leading role in the 2003 film Deliver Us From Eva with rapper L.L. Cool J. This was her second time working with the rapper since making a cameo in his video "Paradise" in 2002. The film received fair reviews from critics and it showed that Union was a leading lady. But first, Union landed the role of Oscar nominee Will Smith's girlfriend Syd in the film Bad Boys II, a box office success grossing over $273 million worldwide. Union then starred with Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx in the film Breakin' All the Rules in 2004.

Union starred in the short-lived 2005 ABC series Night Stalker. She has also starred in the independent drama films Neo Ned and Constellation, the latter of which was released to theaters. She also starred in the 2005 remake of The Honeymooners with comedian Cedric The Entertainer. In 2006, she starred as Busta Rhymes' love interest in the music video for Rhymes' "I Love My Chick". Union starred in the 2007 films Daddy's Little Girls by Tyler Perry (released on Valentine's Day) and the Christmas film The Perfect Holiday which opened on December 12.

In an interview with Art Nouveau Magazine, Union complained about the lack of roles for black actresses and actors in Hollywood: "There used to be [roles] specifically written black, if you knew Denzel was doing a movie you knew his wife, girl or love interest was going to be black [but] that’s not necessarily the case anymore. You’re in that room with every amazingly talented actress of every hue, and it’s a dogfight, it’s hard". In 1996-2007, she appeared as Keesha Hamilton on 7th Heaven.

In 2008, Union appeared on Ugly Betty for three episodes as Renee, Wilhelmina Slater's (Vanessa L. Williams) sister and Daniel Meade's (Eric Mabius) love interest. She also made a cameo appearance in the music video for Ne-Yo's "Miss Independent". In 2009, she joined the cast of the U.S. television series Life on NBC.

In 1992, Union was attacked, beaten and raped at her part-time job in a shoestore. Her attacker later turned himself in and was sentenced to 33 years in prison. She has since become an advocate for victims of sexual assault.

In May 2001, Union married NFL player Chris Howard of the Jacksonville Jaguars; In November 2005, the couple separated; the divorce was finalized in April 2006.

Interview with a famous guy

Desmond Elliot is easily one of the fastest rising stars in the Nigerian home video sector. He shot into limelight through television soap operas and was soon to become a regular face in Nollywood movies such that tracking him down for an interview became almost impossible.

Elliot has also been to many parts of the globe, as his acting skills have made him a well sought after artiste. Besides, he has become a role model in Nollywood such that he often becomes first choice for every producer in search of artistes for romantic roles.

In a recent chat with Daily Sun, Elliot recalled how a friend lured him into acting. He also spoke about his ambition to become the executive governor of Lagos State in the nearest future and why he married an Akwa–Ibom woman:

Background
I was born to a Yoruba father and an Ibo mother. I grew up in the Northern part of the country and I am married to an Akwa-Ibom woman. I had my primary education at Air Force Primary school in Jos from where I went to St John’s College also in Jos. I studied Economics at the Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos and graduated in 2003.

It was a friend who influenced me to become an actor. My friend wasn’t an actor but he always felt that I was cut out for the entertainment industry. As a Christian, I felt that the best thing for me to do was to pray about it. I prayed and asked God to help me make a choice. It wasn’t easy but I thank God that He intervened and revealed to me that I should join the industry. I first started with soap operas such as Everyday People, One Too Much, Wale Adenuga’s Super Stories and Saints and Sinners. I still feature in Everday People but I moved into the movie industry gradually and today the rest is history.

Between Soaps and Video
Anywhere in the world, film and video have always been quite challenging and rewarding to practitioners. Even in more developed countries most great movie stars move from television to movies. For example, Bruce Willies moved from Moonlighting to movies and Will Smith went from Fresh Prince Of Barley to Men in Black. For me, movies are more demanding and rewarding than soap operas.

Becoming governor of Lagos
I am looking forward to becoming the elected governor of Lagos State in not too distant future, but definitely not in 2007. I want to serve the people of Lagos and I know I can do it. People say that politics is a dirty game, I don’t know exactly how dirty it can get but my intention basically is to serve humanity.

Why I run from women
Women chase me because I am an actor and if they don’t do that it simply means that I am not yet an actor. In fact, being chased is not the issue, what matters is that whenever I perceive that I am about to be chased, I run. I run because I have an ambition, which I don’t want women to ruin for me. I run from them if they want to go beyond the level of being my fans to another level.

Realising a character
When I receive a new script, I usually take my time to study it. Thereafter, I hold a discussion with the director on what is expected of me in the movie. Then I move on to develop a suitable character that will go well with what the entire production is all about.

Turn off
I don’t like people flashing me. I mean if you want to give a call, go ahead and do so, it is of no use flashing me.
I also feel bad when the up-coming artistes are not given the necessary opportunity to come into the industry and fully realise their potentials. Another thing that really puts me off is when some directors want to turn actors to zombies by casting them stereotypically into such roles as lover boy, gentleman, tough guy and all that. Personally, I like to see an actor take up different roles and interpreting them well.

Nollywood
The fact that the Nigerian movie industry is growing is what particularly turns me on, thanks to all those that are making it happen such as the marketers, directors, producers and others
Nollywood contributes to the nation’s economy because quite a number of people are involved and are earning their livelihood from it. The only problem is that our government is yet to fully realise the great economic advantage that lies in tapping into the industry. America and India have tapped into Hollywood and Bollywood respectively and the result is quite rewarding.
Government should come and invest in the industry, the marketers have done great jobs by investing their money to prove that the sector is lucrative.

Popularity
First, I did not pay for this talent, it is a gift from God and whatever comes from God is mine. At the same time, God gave it to me and reserves the right to take it back if you fail to use the gift to make people happy and contribute to the good of humanity. So, there is nothing star in my dictionary. I don’t see myself as a star, rather I see myself as someone who wants to manifest God’s gift to bless people, to bless myself and everything around me. I want people to be happy around me, not just to call me a star.

Relaxation
I basically relax with my wife whenever the opportunity comes, especially if I am in town and not involved in a tedious job. I have a special form of relaxation, I just choose a suitable time and free myself from every form of stress.

REJECTION OR ACCEPTANCE

IS PROSTITUTION A NORMAL PHENOMENON?
The spirit of prostitution is abhorred in the culture of this economy. It is obvious to know that something once discarded, has hence become a normal and accepted practice at the corners of some vicinities. In retrospect, prostitutes were being arrested and penalized. The question is "Has prostitution become an accepted norm?"
I think the earlier we stress on the eradication of this canker, the better.Prostitutes around the Vienna City troop in and out blatantly. It is true that any of the prostitutes will have flimsy excuses to deliver but I strongly suggest that we ignore their excuses which probably, will be framed in the name of financial and socio-economic constraints. In any way,it tanishes the good image of this economy.
It is my sincere appeal to government and the entire society to take drastic measures to terminate this societal menace without harm to those involved.
