ECOWAS Must Take Out Yahya Jammeh Now! - Kwamena Duncan

Central Regional Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwamena Duncan has called on the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to use all necessary measures to expel Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh.

Yahya Jammeh had initially conceded defeat, leading to the declaration of Adama Barrow as the President-elect of Gambia.

After making a national broadcast of his concession, Mr. Jammeh made a shocking U-turn and has since refused to cede power; because to him, the elections were rigged.

Mr. Jammeh is supposed to leave office by Wednesday, 18th January for the President-elect Adama Barrow to be inaugurated on Thursday, 19th January, 2017.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Kwamena Duncan expressed disappointment in Mr. Jammeh for being headstrong and refusing to relinguish power to the President-elect, Adama Barrow.

Kwamena Duncan believed should the ECOWAS deploy troops to the Gambian State to fight on behalf of the President-elect; Mr. Jammeh will be compelled to abdicate his Presidential seat.

He told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that African leaders should not allow Mr. Jammeh to remain in power or else "it will set a bad precedent and we may not be able to tell what somebody will do tomorrow. So, ECOWAS must go in in full strength to take him out away from the place . . . They shouldn’t let this succeed. Every step that they need to take to expel Yahya Jammeh, they should make such a step.”
