James Kwabena Bomfeh, also called Kabila, has cautioned the Ghanaian populace and political parties in the country not to be so superstitious to think that the Presidential elections at Nigeria would push their Presidential candidates on the victory radar, come 2016.
Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on "Kokrokoo", Kabila admonished the two major political parties - the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) - not to make any mistake that whichever candidate wins in Nigeria will bode well for their electoral fortunes.
According to him, should the incumbent Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan win the elections or his opponent General Buhari; it would not mean anything for Ghana so far as the seat of government is concerned.
To him, the lessons that the country's leaders should draw from the Nigerian elections is that the fact in order to achieve a free and fair elections, the Biometric and verification system should be improved upon by the Electoral Commission.
He alluded to some inadequacies which were associated with the usage of the biometric procedure in the 2012 general elections and so, hoped Ghana would move a step further like her neighbour - Nigeria - to streamline the biometric voting system.
“Technology is trick. It is useful but it is not a panacea to electoral malpractice or electoral irregularities. It is helpful. If you use it well, it helps. [Kwame], the principle of one man one vote is enhanced well and better by the usage of technology.”
With respect to the candidate who will win the 2016 Presidential elections in the country, Kabila was pessimistic the victory of any of the Nigerian Presidential candidates would in any way affect the chances of Ghana's Presidential candidates in the general elections next year.
“Goodluck Jonathan may win elections in Nigeria but don’t make a mistake to assume John Dramani Mahama automatically will win in Ghana. Equally so, General Buhari may win elections in Nigeria; make no mistake to assume that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo would win elections in Ghana. The situations in Ghana are different from Nigeria…
“…it will be suicidal for you to think that if Goodluck wins in Nigeria, it means John Mahama is winning in Ghana or should Buhari win in Nigeria, it means Akufo Addo will win in Ghana. There is work to be done. For me, [Ghana] the critical thing going to 2016 is leadership that will reshape Ghana. That will bring Ghana’s glory…” |
