General Secretary of the People's National Convention (PNC) Atik Mohammed has rubbished the "Accounting to the people" tour embarked upon by President John Dramani Mahama.
President John Mahama has been touring the country to disclose his government's achievements, initiatives and social interventions to the people of Ghana.
The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dubbed the Presidential tour as a "campaign" tour instead of the President accounting to the people.
According to the opposition, the President is rather canvassing for votes to win the Presidential slot in the November 7 polls.
Also wading into the discussions is the General Secretary of the People's National Convention (PNC) Atik Mohammed who shares a common belief with critics of the President.
Atik Mohammed said on Peace FM's Kokrokoo the President's journey to the regions is geared towards winning votes for his ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He noted that he (President Mahama) has been commissioning projects in the regions which is not indicative of him accounting to the people but rather campaigning for his party to win the general elections.
“It’s not accounting to the people. He’s just campaigning for 2016…And for me, the truth is that I must concede that even though there’s wrong labeling of what he’s doing and the intention and the content are misplaced; it is achieving results. So, let nobody tell me that he’s performing official duties.”
Due to this, Atik Mohammed appealed to opposition parties to step up their game because he believes the President's tour is achieving results.
“Accounting to the people is a misplaced journey but we, in the opposition, must find ways of counteracting whatever effect it is creating.” |
