Kwesi Pratt Commends Mahama On Street Naming

Kwesi Pratt Jnr, Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, has welcomed President Mahama’s initiative to name and number all streets and houses in the Accra Metropolis.

According to him, the naming and numbering of streets in Accra is a significant initiative and so, he commended the President for envisaging such a project.

President Mahama last Friday ordered the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and the Roads and Highway Authority to expedite work on the Bus Rapid Transport System in Accra.

During the launch of the National Urban Policy Framework and Action Plans at James Town in Accra, the President called on the AMA to number and name all streets in the metropolis within the next 18 months.

The President made this known after making some observations about the metropolis.

Speaking at the launch, President Mahama expressed worry over the traffic situation in the country.

He noted that if pragmatic steps are not taken to curb the situation, it may aggravate, therefore announcing his intention to give each street an identity.

Kwesi Pratt contributing in a panel discussion programme on Peace FM on Tuesday, was optimistic the naming of the streets would help people identify places without any complications.

He therefore embraced the proposal, saying “it is necessary to name the streets…So, the naming of streets and numbering, and so forth; it’s a very significant thing. I’m glad that the President has envisioned to do it. It’s something that will help us a lot.”
