Achimota School Head Vows To Resist Attempts To Take Over Portions Of Institution’s Property

New Crusading Guide, in its Monday edition, published that Achimota School, one of Ghana's topnotch second cycle institutions, has come under a siege as bulldozers moved into the school in a fervent attempt to demolish structures in the school.

The publication read that "on Wednesday 4th June, 2014, one estate developer only known as Ahiakpor, with caterpillars in tow, stormed the Achimota land opposite the Nigerian owned church, Pure Fire and started felling trees with Policemen providing security for the operation."

Speaking in an interview with New Crusading Guide, the Headmistress of the School, Mrs. Beatrice Adom narrated the incident, saying "I was here on Wednesday when someone came to tell me that earth-moving machines were on our land and so, I immediately called the Regional Police Commander to notify him and he promised to dispatch some of his men to come to our aid."

Following up on the issue on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Mrs. Adom debunked claims that the school land belonged to a certain family called Nii Ako Nortel Family of OSU.

She told host of the programme, Kwami Sefa Kayi, that “upon investigations, we were informed that the land court had given a writ of protection to a family in Osu to protest the land. They claim that the land was taken from them, from government, to establish Achimota School. But according to our document, the land was bought from another completely. The Osu family has nothing to do with Achimota School land.”

She further disclosed the damage done to the school facilities, saying the bulldozers “cleared a whole portion of the land, right into the forest; even getting towards the Monkey Sanctuary. They have broken the school walls that we took pains to construct and so many things that they have destroyed.”

This notwithstanding, the Headmistress insisted that the school authorities will not rest until they see the matter settled in the law court.
