Powers Of Contempt Still Remain In Our Law Books...Beware! - Lawyer Warns

Lawyer John Kumah, member of the NPP Communications team, has advised Ghanaians to take a cue from the fate of the Montie FM staff and two panelist convicted of contempt and be circumspect in their utterances.

According to him, people should not undermine the law of contempt because the constitution bestowed powers in the hands of the Judges, and until the law is repealed or amended, all must be guarded in their remarks about the judiciary, whether in writing or speech.

The powers of the court to commit to itself contempt, it is still in our law books. So, everybody should be circumspect and polite in speech,” he counseled.

He further touched on the signing of a petition book by NDC activists and government appointees to compel President John Mahama invoke Article 72 and pardon the convicts in prison.

To John Kumah, any move by the President to comply with the petition will not augur well for the future of the country.

He urged the President not to interfere in the Supreme Court ruling and jailing of the three individuals to set any bad precedent in the country.
