Waterville & Isofoton Saga: At The Moment, Both NPP And NDC Are Not Looking Good

Alex Segbefia: Respondents Should Throw Out Petitioners Case In Ongoing 2012 Election Contestation
Former Deputy Chief of Staff, Alex Segbefia has asked the respondents in the ongoing Presidential election case before the Supreme Court to throw out the petitioners’ case for failing to present supposedly accurate number of pink sheets to the court.
Gov’t Should Set Up A Fund To Support Other “Citizen Vigilantes”
Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko says government should set up a fund in honour of the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice Martin Amidu who resolutely fought for the refund of some monies paid as judgment debt to construction firm, Waterville Holdings Ltd.
The former Attorney General who calls himself “Citizen Vigilante” on Friday triumphed in court over his suit against the company and two others, businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome and Austro-Invest Limited to recoup huge sums he claimed were illegally paid to the respondents.
Austro-Invest was later struck out of the suit after being realized that the company was liquidated in Switzerland on July 26, 2011.
The Supreme Court on Friday ordered Waterville Holdings to refund all monies paid it in excess of €40 million in the judgment debt scandal to the Government of Ghana.
A nine-member Bench presided over by Justice Professor Date-Baah unanimously ruled that the company was undeserving of the payments.
The court also referred lawyers for the construction firm and Alfred Agbesi Woyome to the General Legal Council for disciplinary action to be taken against them for failing to do due diligence in their clients’ cases.
Speaking to the issue on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” on Monday, the NPP MP told host Kwame Sefa Kayi that a fund should be established to support the efforts of other “citizen vigilantes”.
According to him, the fund which should be known as “Martin Amidu” fund should aim at providing financial assistance to people whose interest is to unearth the truth and ensure that the country doesn’t run into debts.
“People like this need our support…I congratulate him. Let’s all mobilize resources and money so that when somebody is championing a course like this; it won’t be his burden,” he said.

NDC MP Tells MMDCEs: Adopt Pragmatic Preventive Approach To Forestall Fire Outbreaks
The NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for Juaboso in the Western Region, Hon Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, says Ghanaians should not rule out the possibility that the fires that have since razed various markets in the country may have occurred as a result of arson.
He strongly believes the fires are not “normal” and so, would not undervalue the assertion by President John Dramani Mahama that they may have been engineered by the ill-motives of some people in the nation.
Contributing to a panel discussion programme on Peace FM, he warned other market traders to take a cue from the recent happenings and be vigilant in order to avert any further fire outbreaks.
He was of the strong view that thorough investigations be carried out to ascertain the cause(s) of the persistent fire outbreaks.
“There’s something we have to investigate. There’s something definitely wrong. It has not occurred twice; it has occurred more than thrice. We should learn something from it…It’s not normal. I don’t believe (its just coincidental). It is not and it cannot be normal,” he opined.
He charged Municipal, Metropolitan and District Assemblies to adopt pragmatic preventive approach against the fires and also aid the traders to take precautionary measures.

Ishmael Yamson Tells GIPC Staff: Comply With The Rules Or Find Your Way Out
Board Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Ishmael Yamson, appears sickened by the conduct of some workers of the Centre who are currently in the grips of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
The workers have been interdicted over the findings of an internal audit into their activities and operations at the State-owned institution.
Four officials comprising the Director of Legal Services, A.R Mahama, Director of Marketing and Public Relations, Edward Ashong-Lartey, Head of Finance, Kenneth Doh and Vivian Agyepong, an Administrative and Protocol officer, have been reportedly dismissed upon the recommendations of a committee set up to investigate their actions.
The Director of Legal Services, Mr. Mahama was cited for diverting some monies to a tune of GHC 20,900 of GIPC funds into his personal account in gross violation of the Public Services regulation.
“It is a known long this huge amount of public funds has been kept in his personal account without the knowledge of management of the Centre…” a Daily Guide report disclosed.
The publication also revealed that an “audit report, which is dated May 28, 2013, among others, indicated that there were irregular bank reconciliation of the Centre’s finances, no documented treasury process and no documented security policies.
“The report also exposed a lack of a documented payroll process as well as lack of clearly defined salary structure at GIPC. Others include lack of a transport policy, non-compliance of vehicle use controls and non-availability of a fleet register at the country’s investment promotion Centre."
It further divulged other activities carried out under the cover of darkness by the four interdicted officials.
Vivian Agyepong was also picked up by the BNI and currently being interrogated about her involvement in the cover up.
The GIPC Boss, addressing the issue, indicated that the suspects will face prosecution if found guilty of the allegations leveled against them, hence expressing disappointment in his employees.
“My disappointment is that why should they who are entrusted with authority and responsibility behave the way they have behaved? Now the good thing is that the GIPC has stood up to face this problem. We will be relentless on our effort to make sure that the rights are always done.”
He was alarmed by the discoveries and therefore warned officials at the Centre to undertake their duties in compliance with the rules of the institution or “find their exit”.

Taskforce Atrocities: Sack Deputy Minister...He's Not On Top Of Issues
HANSOL Mining Company, the small-scale mining firm accusing the Inter-ministerial Taskforce Team set up to check illegal mining in the country of high-handedness, has threatened to release video tapes showing some of the excesses of the taskforce team.
Registering his displeasure with remarks by the Deputy Minister of Mines, Lands and Natural Resources, Hon Effah Baafi, that the taskforce team only acted in compliance with President Mahama’s directive to seize equipment used by the illegal miners, and that no member of the team undertook any action in contravention of that fiat, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the company, Edward Kwasi Akuoku promised to produce visual evidence to back his claims.
Rebutting to the deputy minister’s assertions in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM, he accuse the Ministry and government of peddling falsehoods and shielding the misconduct of the taskforce team.
Hon. Yaw Effah Baafi, had earlier denounced on “Kokrokoo”, the station’s flagship programme accusations that the taskforce team have digressed from their mandate and emphatically stated that there is no record of the taskforce team having burnt mining equipment of miners.
He stated on record that “the taskforce has not burned anything. What we did was first give the illegal miners an opportunity to remove their machines and belongings from the mining sites. We gave them a two week ultimatum before the exercise. So, what we did was to seize the equipment of those we met on site. That’s exactly what we did but whether the taskforce burnt their valuables; it’s not true…I confirm that it’s untrue that the taskforce physically abuse them. My investigations prove that the allegations leveled against the taskforce are all false.”
“If there is any evidence that indeed somebody saw the taskforce masterminding the acts, I want to see it”, he demanded.
But the Spokesperson for HANSOL, in recounting the ordeal staff of the company were subjected to, disclosed that the company had in its possession 500 excavators before the presence of the taskforce at the premises of the company and its subsidiaries across the country.
But “as at now, we are only able to account for only two hundred. We cannot find the remaining 300. Whether they’ve been seized or they’ve been burned or they’ve been stolen, we cannot tell.” he exclaimed, adding that four excavators were seized and burned down in the Ashanti Region with the taskforce also destroying some pumping and welding machines, a safe and refrigerator all belonging to the company in the same fashion.
He therefore called for the expulsion of the Deputy Minister because to him, his comments have revealed that he is not abreast with facts on the ground.
“He’s not supposed to be in the Ministry because he’s not on top of issues. I think if you are a sector Minister and something is happening, and is not from just one person but it’s widespread countrywide, there’s a public outcry that their equipment has been burned…The right thing that you as a sector Minister should do is to go to the field. I would have gone to some of these mining sites to find out the truth,” Edward Kwasi Akuoku said.

We’re Two Matured People…There is No Bad Blood Between Me And Prez Mahama
Majority Leader in Parliament, Benjamin Kumbour, has categorically stated that there is no prevailing bad blood in his relationship with President John Dramani Mahama.
According to him, his relationship with the president cannot be underestimated and so, doubted the basis for the reports purportedly pointing to his excommunication from the President’s inner circle of decision-makers; cabinet.
His comment comes on the back of media reports suggesting that the President is at loggerheads with several key personalities “who are seen as posing some kind of threat to his decision to exert firm grips on the ruling party.”
“One of such personalities is the Majority Leader in Parliament and Minister for Government Business, Benjamin Kumbour. The rift between President Mahama and Dr. Kumbour has become so critical that the President is said to be unprepared to meet his Minister for Government Business for interactions to enable him know what is going on in government.
“This has contributed in great measure to the virtual grinding of governance and administration of the nation to a halt…Dr. Kumbour, the Majority Leader, has complained bitterly about being kept in the dark about what is going on in the Mahama administration, even though he is the one to champion the business of government in Parliament”, asserts the “New Statesman” newspaper in its Thursday publication.
But speaking in an interview with “Radio Gold”, the Majority Leader denounced the claims, explaining his exact relationship with the President.
He revealed that there are no acrimonious feelings between him and the President, and wondered where such reports are emerging from because to him, if the reports are something to go by, then they would have resolved their differences maturely.
“In government, perhaps I’m the one that has the longest relationship with John, very very long…We share a common vision that what is paramount in terms of the respective roles we play is to, as much as possible, make sure that we deliver the social goods and services as a social democratic party to the people of this country. That is a shared vision. The operationalization of that vision will be done from the Presidency and I’ll be able to lead that vision in Parliament,” he defined his relationship with the President.
He added that an issue was broached on the floor of Parliament when the Minority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, brought to the attention of the House, an error on a certain official report presented from the Presidency to Parliament in which an asterisk was placed against his name and put in the category of non-members of cabinet.
“I receive all my cabinet documents. I attend cabinet meetings. I take part in almost all the cabinet deliberations that take place. Unfortunately, there was a correspondent that came from the office of the President and was put on the official report of Parliament in which they put an asterisk against my name in terms of Minister non-cabinet…” he explained.
Expounding further, he said “the constitution vests in the President the power to constitute a government and unless that government offends that constitution, the President is at liberty to structure his government at any point in time in the manner that he deems fit and one that he will able to use to deliver social goods and services to the people of this country and that cannot be an issue for us to be questioning in Parliament as a separate arm of government.”
Though this is the prerogative of President Mahama, he however stressed that it does not affect his relations with him.
“The rules of engagement in this are clear. So, where will you have an issue of conflict and this pettiness that people will be attributing to two mature people who have been in political life for so many years?” he questioned.

PURC Bares Teeth
Director of Public Relations and External Affairs of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Nana Yaa Jantuah says her outfit is displeased with the lingering load shedding exercise conducted by the Utility service providers.
Noting down the implications of the exercise, she cited some failures in the process and called on the utility providers to review it.
She stated that “for instance; if you go off beyond the stipulated load shedding period, then it is not load shedding. Some people can go off for four days, some people can go off for three days, even a day; it is certainly not load shedding.”
She thus expressed her disapproval over the roles played by the utility providers in the load shedding process which has since been erratic and therefore demanded the service providers to streamline their operations.
Also, reacting to the requests by the utility service providers for an increment in electricity tariffs, Nana Yaa Jantuah in an interview with Radio Gold Thursday morning explained the reasons that have necessitated the increments.
She maintained that the increments would help boost the operations of the electricity providers and resolve the power fluctuations that have over the months become the bane of the economy.
Disclosing that the PURC has held series of meetings with the major stakeholders; Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), to thrash out issues pertaining to the grievances by the utility providers, she said the utility providers have requested for 166% representing 60 pesewas increase in tariffs to aid them in the procurement of vital assets to improve upon the generation and supply of electricity to the length and breadth of the nation.
She revealed that the Volta River Authority (VRA) has made demands for some “money to buy more crude oil and maintain its plans. And going forward, maybe doing more investments. ECG is talking about expanding its network because they have an increase [a demand] of 10% per annum that they have to meet that demand for electricity is increasing by 10%. GRIDCO also has to do infrastructure and developments, transmission lines, transformers. Ghana Water has to pay for its chemicals. They have to also pay for electricity.
“The Ghana Water cost is a pass-through cost. It’s a pass-through cost because one-third of their operations is electricity, so that if there is any increase in electricity; it impacts on them. So, there’s the need for them to also increase their tariff.”
She further explained that VRA needs financial assistance because of the crisis the nation is grappling with in the energy sector and hoped the tariff changes will aid it together with the other energy providers to resolve the crisis.
“if we do not arrest the situation, it will also collapse the economy. So, there’s the need to do that,” she added.
The PURC, she added, is however mandated to steer the activities of the utility service providers and ensure that they render quality service to consumers.
The law says that “the PURC should ensure the financial integrity and viability of the utility service provider whilst at the same time, protecting the interest of the consumer and ensuring that the consumer is treated fairly and equitably.” she affirmed.
The Commission will today hold a meeting with some Policy Think Tanks in the country to address the issue.

I Endorse The Politicking Of Arrest Of Airport Security Capo – Sammy Awuku
Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party has expressed disappointment in the National Security, claiming that the arrest of the Managing Director of SOHIN Security, Solomon Adelaquaye, in the United States of America for trading in illegal drugs has imprinted a “scar” on the security apparatus.
Speaking on Peace FM Tuesday, Sammy Awuku posited that the National Security has fallen short of commendations and thus expressed doubt about its ability to investigate the drug menace.
US security authorities arrested Mr. Adelaquaye in May for trafficking a substance believed to be heroin, leading to the suspension of his company’s contract with the government of Ghana.
Till the rise of the drug issue, SOHIN Security which was contracted about a year ago by government, through the National Security, was authorized to enhance security presence at the Kotoka International Airport.
Nonetheless, pejorative reports about the arrest of the drug baron left some political figures and the nation gobsmacked with some functionaries within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) alleging that the drug baron was a financier of the governing party.
They also raised red flags about the background checks conducted by the Ghana Airport Company before employing the services of SOHIN Security Company.
Following the arrest, some critics also linked him with the National Security Coordinator, Lt. Col Larry Gbevlo Lartey, purportedly pointing to the suspect’s close relationship with him.
As a result, the critics stridently called on the National Security Coordinator to cede his authority while President Mahama sets up a public inquiry into the matter.
Though Lt. Col Gbevlo Lartey, speaking to an Accra-based radio station, denounced his association with the drug peddler, Sammy Awuku, however expressed distrust in the National Security apparatus.
He asked; “Do you know how many drugs he can traffick in a day? For a month? For six months and to a year? So, we must thoroughly investigate it to avert the possibility of a conspiracy.”
He found it ‘ridiculous’ to depoliticize the issue, especially when the incumbent government stopped at nothing hurling salvos at the erstwhile Kufour government when a similar event took place under his (Ex-President Kufour) watch.
To him, the drug scandal “is a major scar on the conscience of our national security; the arrest of the SOHIN Boss…I cannot trust the National Security to investigate this matter.”
“I endorse the politicking of it by people,” he concluded.

Based On What Intelligence Info Did Mahama Draw The Arson Conclusion? Kweku Baako Asks
According to him, claims that the recent fires might have been caused by arsonists are premature and asked government to produce evidence to support such claims.
Emphasizing his point on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” on Wednesday, Kweku Baako pointed out that such sweeping statements and unproven speculations by government and security officials could breed cynicism.
“These things; if officialdom, you shout arson but you don’t follow the train and provide evidence, and we don’t do the prosecution of the suspects; eventually it leads to cynicism and disbelief and mistrust of the system,” he said.
The seasoned journalist also questioned the logic in placing a ransom on the heads of the alleged arsonists and wondered who advised the president to arrive at that conclusion. To him, it would have been apt if the GHc25, 000 was given to the person who identified the perpetrators only after the government, through the help of the security agencies, concludes forensic tests to corroborate their claims.
“But I cannot agree that intelligence services, security services and the President can speculate…They are not entitled to continue speculating,” he insisted.
He also sought answers to the question which seemed to bother his mind; “how did they find the point of explosion?”
Inferring from the findings by the Ghana Fire Service which pointed to the source of the fires that razed the Makola No. 2 market, the New Crusading Guide editor was of the view that if circumstantial evidence by the Service has proven that the incident happened as a result of some technical fault, then, they should “be able to determine what led to the explosion if it’s petrol somebody place there and lighted it, they will know. If it’s electrical fault, they will know…”
Also, touching on the engagement of American experts to assist the Ghanaian security core to find out the causes of the recent fire rages, he said the move is an admission that the country’s security or intelligence outfit is not up to task.
The declaration, he stated, meant that “we don’t have the capacity to undertake that particular exercise. So what I think as a nation we should be doing is to look at the option of improving on our intelligence agencies; Fire Service and so forth.”
He, however, was of a strong view that the fire experts engaged by government will do a professional job.
“American (forensics) experts can never be induced to lie. Those people are professionals…Those doing the forensic, look, you can’t get them to lie…,” Kweku Baako said.

Mahama Must Call Inter-ministerial Taskforce Team To Order
A leading member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has challenged President John Mahama to ensure that members of the Inter-ministerial Taskforce Team, who took the law into their own hands by ransacking Hansol Mining Company are apprehended and made to face the full rigours of the law.
The CPP’s National Youth Organizer, James Kwabena Bomfeh, also called Kabilla, was visibly displeased with the harm done to the company by some of the security personnel involved in the Taskforce’s operations and advised them to consider their authority granted them as a privilege.
A number of security officials last Wednesday ransacked the premises of the Hansol Mining Company on suspicion that the company was involved in illegal mining, but according to the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the team rather made away with some valuables belong to the company.
The security officers, he disclosed, “took away money, gold and any other valuable they could lay their hands on and later touched the workplaces despite the fact that they saw no foreigner.”
He further revealed that they also plundered other containers and its contents “which had nothing to do with the mining activities. They also burnt down a new product called ‘wo ntumi milk maker’, which is due to be launched next month.”
“I am sure no other businessman in Ghana has suffered my fate in the history of this country”, he lamented; averring that the security services are taking advantage of President Mahama’s directive for them to check illegal mining activities in the country by rather exploiting people and enriching themselves overnight by looting and leaving businesses in a ramshackle condition.
Commenting on the issue on “Kokrokoo” Monday morning on Peace FM, the CPP National Youth Organizer also called on government to adopt a holistic approach in solving the canker in the mining sector.
“I’m challenging the President that if he is interested in these matters, the security personnel who perpetrated these acts and stole Mr. Antwi Bosiako’s materials should be questioned because if you arrest somebody for illegal mining, it doesn’t mean you should steal his things”, he said.
He warned security agencies to refrain from “bullying” people with their authority.
“If you are a Police officer; if you are a BNI officer, if you are a security force, see it as a privilege to serve humanity. Don’t use your power to bully people,” he stressed.

Pratt Slates Inter-ministerial Taskforce Team On Illegal Mining
Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has called on the Inter-ministerial Taskforce Team established by President John Mahama to flush out illegal miners to cease taking the law into their own hands by subjecting alleged illegal miners to instant punishment.
The team which was set up last month has been accused of deviating from the task it was set up to do. Some claim the committee has foregone its major task of seizing machines and equipment of illegal miners by burning everything to the ground.
The Inter-ministerial Task Force on Illegal Mining, which is chaired by the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, has other ministries such as the Interior, Defence, Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration as well as Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, making up the team.
Commenting on the activities by the taskforce team in some regions, the outspoken journalist emotively issued caution to the authorities to comport themselves in handling the culprits.
He expressed strong disapproval with the conduct of the taskforce and questioned the logic in their actions.
Making reference to the recent damage to property belonging to HANSOL Mining Company, Kwesi Pratt described as “senseless” the alleged gross extortion, setting ablaze of site structures and equipment belonging to small-scale miners in the country, particularly those with different political affiliations.
He admonished the security taskforce to desist from burning the equipment used by the small-scale miners but to ensure that justice takes its cause whenever they mount a search for the illegal miners.
“Let’s test the law in the court,” he insisted.
He also bemoaned the culture where eventhough the Mining industry of Ghana accounts for 5% of the country's GDP and minerals make up 37% of total exports; the government retains just a 10% carrying interest in mining companies to which it grants a license, stressing that the blame should not only be placed at the doorsteps of the influx of Chinese nationals who have infiltrated the mining sites.
To him, “the problem in the mining sector is not galamsey. Galamsey may be a problem but there are bigger problems”, and appealed to government to identify the root cause of problems associated with mining in the country.

Gbevlo Lartey: I Don’t Give A Hoot...
National Security Coordinator, Lt. Col Larry Gbevlo Lartey has denied any close association with the embattled Managing Director of SOHIN Security, Solomon Adelaquaye who is facing charges related to illicit drugs trade in the US.
Gbevlo Lartey also debunked claims that Mr. Adelaquaye was head of security at the airport saying his (Adelaquaye’s) company was only responsible for security at “peripheral places” such as the car park.
Solomon Adelaquaye was arrested by US authorities in May for the trafficking of a substance believed to be cocaine, and government subsequently suspended the contract with Sohin Security.
Following his arrest, the opposition New Patriotic Party [NPP] alleged that he was a financier of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and questioned the background checks conducted by the Ghana Airport Company before hiring Sohin Security Company.
Some even pointed to the suspect’s close relationship with the National Security Coordinator, with critics calling on him to step aside whiles President John Mahama institute a public inquiry into the matter.
But speaking on ‘News Night’ on Joy FM today, Col. Gbevlo Lartey stridently distanced himself from the drug baron, stating categorically that he does not “know him.
"I’ve never had a conversation with him” and added that he “talked with that guy only once” when his security personnel made dubious claims to some properties.
He also disclosed that the US Drugs Enforcement Administration (DEA) acted in close collaboration with their Ghanaian counterparts to apprehend the suspect.
“These things are all operations that we started from beginning to the end. So, it has nothing to do with porosity of security at the airport. These operations are operations that we ourselves have organized to get the people to get into the US and be arrested…It’s not cocaine, it was heroin.”
Whiles blaming the media for misleading the public and trying to rope him in, the National Security capo said he is undaunted by the attacks on his character.
“This politicking of it doesn’t really bother me. I don’t give a hoot about it. I’ll continue doing my work to the best that I can,” he asserted.

Mahama's Comments Were "Prejudicial" - Sammy Awuku
The Deputy Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party has taken a swipe at President John Dramani Mahama for his recent comments on the outcome of the election petition at the Supreme Court.
Addressing executives and members of the ruling National Democratic Congress during the 21st anniversary of the party, President John Mahama averred that the outcome of the election case will prove his government guiltless of the claims by the petitioners of the NPP, challenging his legitimacy as the fourth President under the Fourth Republic.
He expressed no doubt about the results of the Presidential elections, stating firmly that the governing party won “clearly in free and fair elections.”
But in a sharp riposte to the President’s comments, Sammy Awuku described as “prejudicial” such submissions seemingly vindicating the Mahama-led government.
He wondered why President Mahama would come to a conclusion when the case is still pending in the court and thus insisted on Peace FM’s morning programme “Kokrokoo” that the “President’s comments were unfortunate, prejudicial and avoidable.”

Leave National Security Out Of “Dirty” Cocaine Talk - Sam Pee Yalley
A Public Interest Lawyer and a leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sam Pee Yalley has warned th general public, especially politicians to cease linking the National Security apparatus with drug trafficking.
To him, it is inappropriate to associate the National Security Coordinator, Col (rtd) Larry Gbevlo-Lartey with drug barons.
Official reports received on Wednesday indicated that the Managing Director of Sohin Security Company, Solomon Adelaquaye, has been busted over cocoaine in the United States of America as part of a drug trafficking syndicate.
The alleged drug dealer is said to be a close pal of the Lt. Col Gbevlo Lartey.
The drug dealer who is believed to an NDC financier was arrested together with two Nigerians and Colombian in May for his role in the drug trafficking syndicate which had been operational in the West Africa sub-region, according to an official statement released on June 3.
“Sources said political godfathers including Gbevlo Lartey facilitated the selection of Sohin Security for its services at the airports. Hitherto, the company had no practical experience in handling security issues before it was granted the contract at the airports”, a Daily Guide report revealed.
However, Mr. Pee Yalley rubbished the report on Radio Gold’s “Alhaji Alhaji” on Saturday, warning the newspaper and any drug baron whose interest is to place a “dirty tag of drugs” on the neck of the National Security coordinator to refrain from their diabolic ways.
To him, Col. Gbevlo Lartey’s efforts and achievements cannot be underrated, stating firmly that “if Larry has done so much for this country, this is not how we treat people like that. I am pleading that for the sake of the unity of this country, we should keep certain national institutions out of our politics. We should leave this National Security business out of our politics.”

Security Personnel Should Step Up With Their Investigations On Market Fires - Allotey Jacobs
The Central Regional Communication Director of the National Democratic Congress, Bernard Allotey Jacobs has called on security agencies to step up their game in tracing the perpetrators of the Makola fire and other fire outbreaks across the country.
He urged the security services to step ahead of the arsonists in order to avert further occurrences of fires in various markets.
Assessing the spate of fire outbreaks under the Mahama administration, he suspected that the act might have been masterminded by detractors of the ruling party and therefore prayed the “security services to move one step ahead of these arsonists if there is. That there’s the need for us to protect the rest of our market. It is like our economic vibrancy is being destroyed.”
Speaking to Radio Gold on Wednesday, Allotey Jacobs averred that the perpetrators may be guided by some motives to derail the incumbent government and so, issued a word of caution to them to refrain from such actions.
He also admonished Ghanaians to be on their guard to prevent the perpetrators.
“We as citizens, we need to be part and parcel of our security network…Because at the end of the day, we are the losers and therefore there’s the need for us always to be on our guard.”

Wereko-Brobbey Should Refrain From Commenting On His Party In Public
A member of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Communication team, Samuel Amoako has pleaded with Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey to seize fire on commenting on his party in the public domain.
Contributing in a panel discussion programme on Peace FM, the PPP Communicator expressed worry over the dissenting views overcrowding the New Patriotic Party since it hopped onto the legal platform with the Electoral Commission and President John Mahama whose legitimacy is being challenged at the Supreme Court by the party leaders.
He therefore added his voice to numerous calls on Dr. Wereko-Brobbey to channel his concerns to the party hierarchy and refrain from challenging the decisions of party in the media.
To him, it is not in the right fashion for him (Wereko-Brobbey) to address issues concerning the NPP in the public domain when there are procedures to follow to get his views heard by the leadership.
He thus pleaded with him that “next time or when you are in a party and if the majority agrees on something; if you can’t tolerate it, then disband yourself from the party. If you can, then join it. If you can’t and you have some suggestion, there are other means, laid down procedure that you can follow when you have dissenting views.”
He also condemned the comments by Dr. Arthur Kennedy, a former Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the NPP has turned into a party of “violence and intimidation” and advised him equally to use the appropriate channel to address his concerns about the party.

June 4th Celebration Should Be Banned - Atik Mohammed
A Policy Analyst of the People's Progressive Party (PPP), Atik Mohammed has called for a ban of the June 4th celebration, wondering why in this democratic era, the country will have any cause to mark the day.
Labelling Ex-President Rawlings as a man who has “outlived his relevance”, Atik Mohammed speaking on Oman FM rubbished the essence of the June 4, 1979 ‘revolution’.
Former President Jerry Rawlings, addressing a forum to commemorate the 34th anniversary of the June 4 upheaval on Monday, slammed both his successors; former Presidents J.A Kufour and the late J.E.A Mills for reversing the gains of the revolution.
”…Ghana appears to have been moving towards an irreversible situation down a tunnel, thanks to Presidents Mills and Kufuor”, he said, adding: “President Mahama has the responsibility to pull this country out of that tunnel. How well, how far and how soon John IV can achieve that is hard to say."
He also cautioned the ruling NDC to be wary of some characters within the party or may risk losing the 2016 elections.
“If we do not clean up our party, helping the Executive will be truly difficult and retaining power in 2016 will be very difficult”, he warned.
Nonetheless, the PPP stalwart questioned the innocence of the Ex-President Rawlings and moral justification of him to vent his spleen on his successors.
He sought to find out why he (Rawlings) indemnified himself against prosecution by introducing some clauses in the country’s constitution if he so deems himself different.
“Why did you put transitional clauses in the constitution? Clauses that are protecting you against prosecution. If you know what you did is something to be celebrated, why did you introduce those clauses; indemnity clauses? Then, let’s remove it and see whether your coup d’etats are worth celebrating in this country,” he asked.
He admonished Ghanaians to wake up from the “dirty past” inflicted upon them by former President Rawlings.
According to him, there should be a legislation to ban the celebration since it leaves a bad precedent for the country, stressing that “June 4th is no longer relevant…It’s for history. It’s for us to go and read in books.”

NPP MP: Wereko-Brobbey Should Form His Own Political Party If...
NPP Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Hon. Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko has dared Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey to form his own party if he cannot comply with the constitutional provisions of the party.
According to him, it would be better for him to establish his party than publicly defy its tenets.
Speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo, the NPP Stalwart wondered why Dr. Wereko-Brobbey would seemingly betray the party by his comments after they rallied support for him when he nursed interest to take up a position in the party some years ago.
He as a result called on him to hold his peace and use the appropriate channel within the party to address his concerns.
He explained that majority of the party leadership agreed on pursuing the petitioners’ claims of electoral malpractices in the law court and so, it is not apropos for anyone to dissent to the party’s position.
“90% said they will give it to this man. If you disagree, if you can’t accommodate; the better thing to do is to go and form your own...Once, the majority has decided to go that line, that becomes the official position.”
To him, Dr. Wereko Brobbey portrays himself as “the only person who knows. He is the only person with insight. He is the only person with foresight”, but “if he feels we are not his class,” then he should leave the party alone.
He therefore issued a strong-worded note to him, saying “we may even be wrong…But it is better for all of us to get together in these difficult times. I think it is arrogance. I think it is uncalled-for to pretend as if you alone know everything, you alone understand; you alone are a repository of wisdom. It is not done. It breaks the spirit of a group.”
Also, disclosing his once widely held disagreement for the choice of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as Running mate to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, 2012 Presidential candidate of the party, Mr. Agyarko however expressed gratitude to him for making a better decision for the party.
Even though he “disagreed. My whole body disagreed…Today, I always thank God that he got such a mindset”, he blurted out.

Dr. Wereko-Brobbey: NPP Has Become Autocratic; Some Members Are Using It For Their Private Gains
Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey says the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the hands of some members who are only using the party for their private gains, has turned into an autocratic party.
The NPP he knew some years ago which was founded on the principles of the Danquah/Bussia seems to abandon its tenets and trying to repress him. According to him, the NPP has doled out some money to serial callers to vilify him because they cannot tolerate his outspoken character.
Dr. Wereko-Brobbey has since the filing of a petition by the NPP, under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, come hard on the party rubbishing the move by the leaders to go to the Supreme Court to seek redress on the Presidential elections last year.
He has dissented to some positions and decisions taken by the party.
His recent comments ignited passions within the party with the General Secretary of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, doubting his true membership with the party.
Over the weekend, news broke out that he had been suspended by the leadership but speaking to Peace FM on Monday, he denied knowledge of any sanction by the party and expressed that he cannot be gagged from sharing his views on the conduct of the party.
Defining the NPP as “party of Rule of law and the party of free expression”, he wondered why the members cannot stomach his comments and have sought to attack his personality.
“When you switch on radio, you switch on television; everybody is expressing his mind. Why does it astonish people when Wereko-Brobbey alone speaks his mind? Everyday, everybody is expressing himself or herself…Everyday, NPP members are speaking their mind; NDC also speaking theirs. So, why can’t I also express myself?”
He therefore held strongly that he will continue to “speak his mind”, “if you think I have spoken my mind and you don’t agree with me, and want to send me somewhere; the law is there.”
To him, the party members are tickling themselves and so quoted a biblical verse as caution to his critics.
He admonished them to “cast ye first the log”from their eyes, “so you can see clearly. Then you can remove the splinter from your brother’s eye.”
Though admitting the elections were rigged, he however was of the view that the NPP “did not watch the gate and they came to steal them.”
“I believe that private interests are being put ahead of the collective interests of the NPP. I have a right to believe that. So, nobody can say they hold the body and the wisdom of the NPP…Democracy must be founded on vigorous debate.
“This is nonsense. This is not the Danquah/Busia party. This is not the party of intolerance. It is a disgrace for anybody to get into this…Our party has become an intolerant autocratic party that does not follow its own rules. That cannot be good for the NPP,” he concluded.

Communications Directorate Of NPP Reinforces Party's Directive To Suspend Tarzan
The Deputy Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Perry Okudzeto has reinforced his party’s directives to suspend Dr. Wereko-Brobbey, a stalwart in the party following his seemingly disparaging remarks about the conduct of the party.
Last Friday, the National Executive Committee of the party held a meeting and reached a decision to suspend him in accordance with Article 3(d)(f) of the party’s constitution.
Though Dr. Wereko-Brobbey has denied notice of the sanction, the Deputy Communications Director in an interview with Kwami Sefa-Kayi on Peace FM says he will possibly face his sanction in the course of the week.
He was of the view that Dr. Wereko-Brobbey’s public utterances about the party violate the provisions in the party’s constitution and so, cannot be overlooked.
He explained the duties of the members of the party, saying a member is obliged to be “protecting and promoting the good name of the party. Protecting the unity of the party. Be loyal and truthful to the party. Abide by and publicly uphold the decisions of the party.”
This, he stated, has not been upheld by him (Wereko-Brobbey) and therefore believed the party’s decision is in the right order.
“His dissenting views to upholding party decisions that have been taken at the highest level of the party violate this section of our party’s constitution. When you go to Article 4, Section 7; it talks about misconduct and it also violations. It says that people who violate the duties as a party members should be sanctioned. It also talks about the breach of duty to uphold publicly party policies.” he said.
He also volunteered an advice for him, saying “he (Wereko-Brobbey) should think about the things that he has written. The things that he has said about our party in the public domain and advised us, youth, who are working for this party whether it is right to be doing these things and be putting out these things in the public domain as a party member. If he calls himself a member of the New Patriotic Party.”

Akua Donkor: I Will Kick Foreigners Out of Mining Sector If...
Presidential candidate for the Ghana Freedom Party, Akua Donkor has reiterated her ambition to make Ghana a haven for its indwellers.
Noting down the benefits accrued to the nation from gold extraction, Madam Akua Donkor assured the nation that its gold will no longer be in the hands of foreigners.
She told Radio Gold that when voted into power, she will kick the foreigners out of the mining sector and therefore “use the gold to boost the economy. I won’t allow the whites to extract gold anymore. Today, I’ve stood firm that i won’t let the whites extract it, Ghanaians will take their land.”
According to her, “the bribery, corruption and all bad things should get out of this country for us to have our peace. That’s why I have set up a party…The culture where if you don’t have money, you don’t go to court will pass away; a poor person is guilty in court will pass away immediately.”
She also pledged to eliminate corruption in the country and give equal rights to citizens, whether poor or not, to gain justice from the law courts.
Touching on the ongoing election petition, Madam Akua Donkor reinforced her position that the petitioners’ case is void and believed the founder and 2012 Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has teamed up with Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, leader of the People’s Progressive Party to add their votes to Nana Addo’s should the nation go for a run-off.
“They know he did not get it but just helping them so that there will be run-off for Paa Kwesi Nduom will his (votes) to his (Nana Addo)”, she said but stressing that there was no rigging in the 2012 elections.
“I will never say that there was rigging. I won’t say it because I didn’t see it. I’ve always advised them but they did not listen…If they don’t stop it, I will blow their cover.”

Nana Addo's Head Is a "Repository of Wickedness"
Founder and Presidential aspirant of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor, without mincing words has described Nana Akufo-Addo’s head as a “repository of wickedness”, a reason why he couched the NPP’s “All die be die” mantra.
Speaking to Radio Gold a couple of days ago, Madam Akua Donkor was of a strong view that Nana Addo’s inability to become a President is due to his cruel motives and as a result is seemingly being punished by God.
To her, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, 2012 Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party and one of the petitioners challenging the legitimacy of President John Mahama, is no new person from his father’s (Edward Akufo-Addo) character.
She accused the father of complicity in the death of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and so, stressed that “it is in their bloodline.”
She also disclosed that the panel of Judges sitting on the election petition before the Supreme Court seems to pamper him.
And according to her, the Supreme Court Registrar is behind the pampering and urged Nana Addo to file the petition, contesting the results of the 2012 Presidential elections.
“The Registrar talked on the phone with Akufo-Addo before he filed the petition. Why do you talk on the phone with him? If he says he is coming to file his petition, give him way; leave him…So, if you speak with Akufo-Addo on the phone, then you are behind and helping him. And if you help him, it won’t help the country.”
Nana Addo, she stated categorically, cannot become the President of the nation due to his “wicked ways.”
“It is in their bloodline. So, he is fond of fighting and his “All die be die” mantra is a result of his wicked mind. God knows that he doesn’t have the right mind, so He won’t give it to him.”
