A
member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communication team, Kwamena
Duncan, wants government to immediately come to the aid of alleged
illegal miners who were physically manhandled and their equipment set
ablaze by some members of the Inter-ministerial Taskforce Team mandated
to check illegal mining activities in the country.
The team which
was set up last month has been accused of diverting from the original
assignment it was set up to do. Some claim the Committee has foregone
its major task of seizing machines and equipment of illegal miners by
burning them to ashes.
Speaking on Peace FM’s flagship programme
“Kokrokoo” on Wednesday, Kwamena Duncan, who also doubles as the Central
Regional Secretary of the NPP, wondered why government has remained
silent and virtually done nothing to compensate the victims after their
machines were set ablaze by the taskforce.
Touching on the plight
of the Chief Executive of HANSOL Mining Company, he made clamorous
appeals to President John Mahama to intervene and ensure that the
company enjoys relief from the calamity.
“As a citizen of the
country, is anybody hearing his voice? The taskforce; have they heard
this man?...Can we look into this continuous cry from this member of
this country. Can we take a second look?” he asked, calling on
government to “take a look at those who are crying. And whether we can
look into their matter, make some investigations and see how we can help
and assist them because they are Ghanaians.” |
