NPP
Parliamentary Candidate for Okaikoi South, Ahmed Arthur has kicked
against the decision by the party leadership to boycott the National
Economic Forum.
The party confirmed its decision on Monday during a press conference.
During the conference, the National Chair of the party described the forum as a “PR gimmick calculated to keep the people of Ghana in the dark about the real state of the economy.”
Obeng Manu, a Deputy News Editor of Peace FM, reporting on the issue during Peace FM Midday News
said the NPP asked its members not to attend the forum "because
government has already made up its mind on how to run the economy; and
no amount of discussions will change it".
Hon. Ahmed Arthur, contributing to a panel discussion programme on U TV,
was optimistic the Forum will bring on board various ideas and
perspectives about the economy and so, believed his party should have
participated.
He however expressed disgust over the adamant
disregard for the economic views the party's 2008/2012 Running mate to
Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia expressed on the administration of
the country by the ruling National Democratic Congress.
According
to him, Dr. Bawumia exposed the incompetence of the NDC administration
and forewarned them of possible repercussions to the country's progress.
Speaking
to host Tweneboah Koduah, he opined that if the ruling National
Democratic Congress had heeded the economic advice by Dr. Bawumia, the
challenges crippling the economy would have been resolved.
Though Hon. Ahmed Arthur supported the forum, he however pledged to comply with the decision by his party.
