Indeed,
issues regarding the failures of the current administration are nothing
new to several Ghanaians and the political sect in the country since
numerous socio-economic commentators and politicians keep censuring the
actions and inactions of the government under the leadership of
President John Dramani Mahama.
Some have argued that President
John Mahama is not a proactive leader, accusing government officials of
siphoning off taxpayers' money to enrich themselves to the detriment of
the ordinary Ghanaian.
But as part of plans by President Mahama
to salvage the economy, the government will on Tuesday, May 13, 2014
assemble 400 Ghanaians consisting of a cross section of politicians,
business executives, civil society groups and economists to deliberate
on national issues.
Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur announced this during a forum on the energy industry in Ghana.
The
deliberation, forms part of a national forum on the economy to discuss
"all aspects of the economy" and will further seek public opinions on
the medium to long term economic goals of the country.
Addressing the gathering, he pledged government's commitment to resolve the economic crisis facing the Ghanaian citizenry.
"The
difficulties are cyclical and we are determined to fix the micro
imbalances which everybody recognizes as a major difficulty confronting
the country," he said.
Despite the government’s initiative,
Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency, Hon. Henry Kwabena Kokofu
has admonished Ghanaians not to be deceived by the pretext of President
John Dramani Mahama.
He opined Ghana needs a paradigm shift to
show the ruling National Democratic Congress an exit. According to him,
the forum noted by President John Mahama and his Vice is a clear
indication that the government is "tired" and cannot rule anymore.
Speaking on U TV's "Adekye Nsroma", Hon. Kokofu called on Ghanaians to vote in a new leadership that will not disappoint them but rather attend to their needs.
Though
he commended the current administration for arranging a meeting with
the citizenry, he however stressed that "we need a paradigm shift and it
starts with leadership. We need to change leadership and leadership
style in this country. We know that this crop of leadership has failed
us…It is a clear case of failure. It is a clear case of saying that
where we have reached, we’ve lost control of the situation.”
