P.V Obeng Had A Unique Passion For Ghana

A member of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Mr. Eric Ametor Quarmyne has described the late Paul Victor Obeng, Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), as a gem and a selfless politician who played significant roles in the socio-political development of the nation.

Ing. Sir Paul Victor Obeng, on Saturday, passed away after taken ill in his vehicle and was rushed in a taxi to the hospital.

PV Obeng was pronounced dead on arrival; meanwhile an autopsy is yet to be done to ascertain the real cause of his death.

Contributing to a panel discussion on U TV’s “Adekye Nsroma” show, Mr. Ametor Quarmyne described his untimely death as unfortunate and touted the exceptional efforts of the deceased, saying he (PV Obeng) played vital role in the economic fabric of the nation.

According to him, the late PV Obeng worked assiduously in his field irrespective of the government in power.

“He’s a person who had a unique passion for Ghana. So, it doesn’t matter the kind of government in power, he still contributed to the development of the country,” he said.

Commenting on the circumstances leading to his demise, the Communications Consultant to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) bemoaned the poor services of the emergency units in the country.

He urged the country's emergency units to step up their game and act proactively to prevent any unfortunate deaths in health-related situations. He also advised government to improve emergency services in the country in order to safeguard the lives of Ghanaians.

“Government must put in place a unified emergency number that when you call, the receiver will only have to find out the problem and then relay the information to the appropriate services,” he said.

To him, the single emergency number that Ghanaians can call and report health problems would help the emergency units to act swiftly and therefore boost their work.

Expressing similar sentiments about the deceased, Hon. Seth Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, said the late PV Obeng left an indelible mark on the nation and as a patriotic politician and socialite, contributed immensely to Ghana's development.
