Alan & The Other Candidates Should Just Bow Out…The Contest Is Skewed In Favour Of Nana Addo

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Ade Coker wants former Trade Minister, Alan Kyeremateng, who is seeking to be the opposition party’s flagbearer, to opt out of the contest in the impending special congress of the New Patriotic Party.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Morning Show "Kokrokoo", Ade Coker admonished Alan Kyeremateng, as a matter of urgency, to immediately throw in the towel and allow the party's two-time Presidential candidate Nana Akufo Addo to go unopposed.

Reacting to the internal strife and the infamous clash of titans in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ade Coker believed Alan Kyeremateng has been rendered redundant so far as the party's flagbearership contest is concerned, by leading NPP members.

According to him, Alan Kyeremateng and the other candidates will only be "wasting their money" and resources should they participate in the special congress.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold its special congress on Sunday, August 31 this year, with the aim of pruning the seven candidates contesting for the flagbearership slot to five.

Among those contesting the flagbearership slot are Former Trade and Industry Minister Dr.Kofi Konadu Apraku; Mampong MP Francis Addai Nimoh; Asuogyaman MP Kofi Osei Ameyaw; Former Trades Minister Alan Kyeremanten, Essikado-Ketan MP Joe Ghartey; Former Information Minister Stephen Asamoah Boateng and 2012 flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo,.

The Electoral Commission (EC) will conduct the elections which will take place simultaneously in all ten regions of the country with about 787 delegates expected to cast their votes.

These delegates are made up of Constituency Chairmen, Regional Executives, Members of Parliament, National Executive Committee members, Funding members , Members of the Council of Elders.

Ten polling stations will be mounted in each region and an additional one at the party headquarters. Polls will be opened at 8am and closed at 3pm.

Even before the congress comes off, endorsement of Nana Akufo Addo has become an established convention in the party.

Addressing the issue, the NDC Regional Chairman bemoaned the recent happenings in the NPP where some armed supporters besieged the party headquarters wielding machetes and other offensive weapons, and vandalized party property all inspired and motivated by or on behalf of the 2012 Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as claimed by Dr Arthur Kennedy, a one-time NPP flagbearer aspirant.

He thus charged the candidates to leave the battle for Nana Addo, saying “if I were Alan and the other candidates, I would not go for the contest. If Alan is listening to me; he should resign tomorrow and say he won’t contest any longer...because he is wasting his money. It’s a waste of time seriously.”
