How Can One Man Dribble All These Intellectuals Assigned State Duties? Baako Quizzes
“Look
at the level of the people that we entrusted State responsibility to
and look at their level of education and experience and exposure; just
for one man to dribble all these people. This case was the lowest point
in terms of Ghanaian public service including the political leadership.
It made the country look like a banana Republic! This case was a classic
indicator that we had gone very down, perhaps yet to be buried. We were
dead, left with our remains to be buried…”
Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide
newspaper, Kweku Baako has lambasted the previous Mills-Mahama
government for hero-worshipping Alfred Agbesi Woyome, Waterville and
others indicted in the infamous judgment debt scandal. Kweku
Baako chided the late President John Evans Atta Mills for his extreme
laxity to mete out punitive measures on judgment debt culprits.
According
to him, the key problem associated with the payment of judgment debts
to beleaguered Alfred Agbesi Woyome and Waterville including other
parties "was the failure or refusal or both of the Mills administration;
the officers that were in charge of this thing consulting the previous administration.”
Supporting his claims with some documents which he read on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Kweku Baako believed the two-time Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), then Attorney General under Kufour regime and Former Chief of Staff, Kwadwo Mpianim have been exonerated by the Supreme Court order.
The
Supreme Court on Tuesday unanimously ruled that Alfred Agbesi Woyome
had no valid contract and directed him to refund the $ 51.2 million
judgment debt paid him, between 2009 and 2010, to the State.
The
eleven-member panel presided over by the Chief Justice; Mrs. Georgina
Theodora Wood ruled that the contracts Mr. Agbesi Woyome made and
received the claim were in contravention of Article 181 (5) of the 1992
Constitution of Ghana.
In the ruling, they also noted that the contracts should have been presented on the floor of Parliament for approval.
The
ruling follows a judicial review brought before the Supreme Court by
former Attorney General Martin Amidu against businessman Alfred Agbesi
Woyome.
Mr. Martin
Amidu also triumphed in his case against Waterville Holdings to refund
all sums paid it in the controversial 51 million dollar judgment debt
scandal to the Government of Ghana.
Speaking on Peace FM,
Kweku Baako described the nation as "banana Republic" wondering how the
NDC government officials with all their pedigree could be swindled in
the Woyome scandal.
“Look
at the level of the people that we entrusted State responsibility to
and look at their level of education and experience and exposure. Just
for one man to dribble all these people.

the political leadership. It was the lowest point. It made the country
look like a banana Republic! This case was a classic indicator that we
had gone very down, perhaps yet to be buried. We were dead, left with
our remains to be buried and shut on the ground.”
Kweku
Baako lauded the heroic efforts by Mr. Martin Amidu, stressing that the
claims by the late Mills government to only look out for the parties
that caused the liabilities to the State without punishing the
beneficiaries as well, was nothing but "an inept poor attempt at
political equalization tailored to rescue those who had perpetuated this
Waterville-Woyome” conspiracy to defraud this country.
