Policy Analyst of the People's National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, has called on the Government of Ghana to equip the Electoral Commission (EC) with the requisite materials and resources so the body can conduct a free and fair registration exercise and elections.
Addressing the issue of the just-ended limited registration on "Kokrokoo" on Peace FM, Atik Mohammed insisted that the government should set aside a specific sum of money to enable the EC efficiently discharge its duties and also called for a thorough auditing of the voters' register.
According to him, the register should be audited to instill confidence in the electorates to participate in the elections without having doubts about the performance of the EC.
To him, voter confidence is a necessary tool in the activities of the EC.
“It’s important for us to review or audit our register so that going into the next elections, we all as participants and as players will have confidence in the register. So, when the results come; no person will claim that it was bloated…Let’s all build confidence in the process and it starts with a proper and public audit of the register,” he stated. |
