Anane Lied...Nana Addo Is A Solid Political Figure And No One Must Disgrace Him

Kweku Baako Jnr
Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide newspaper Kweku Baako has debunked claims by Former Minister for Health, Dr. Richard Anane, that Nana Addo’s cohort masterminded a plot to replace Ex-President John Agyekum Kufour after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Delegates’ Conference in 1998.

Dr. Anane leveled the allegations against the two-time Presidential candidate of the party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo during the campaign launch of the flagbearer hopeful, Alan Kyerematen.

He claimed after NPP delegates elected Mr Kufuor as their presidential candidate in 1998, Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson, who was a leading member of Nana Akufo-Addo’s campaign team at the time, and some others he did not mention schemed to have him (Kufuor) dropped and replaced by their candidate.

According to Dr. Anane, Adjiri Blankson and some other members of Nana Addo’s campaign team who he did not mention prevailed on the late Bernard Joao Da Rocha, a.k.a B.J Da Rocha, and the then chairman of the NPP, Mr. Samuel Odoi-Sykes, as well as other executives to drop John Agyekum Kufuor, the elected presidential candidate, and replace him with their candidate.

He pointed out the recent calls on other candidates to step down for Nana Akufo-Addo was reminiscent of what happened in 1998, and clearly shows disrespect for delegates.

But speaking on Peace FM’s Morning Show, the seasoned journalist asserted that Dr. Anane “peddled an obvious untruth; it just doesn’t make sense”.

“All votes were in favour of Kufour and Nana conceded defeat and even declared that in the year 2000 Kufour will emerge president. But even then there was no embargo placed on traveling and Nana had the right to travel anywhere he wanted”, Kweku Baako said in answer to the wrongly-held perception a Addo, embittered by the defeat, left for the UK and did not take part in the campaign leading to the 2000 elections.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the comments made by Dr. Anane since to him; the allegations are not “true but even if they were, how were they going to execute the move when most of the stewards in the party are lawyers. They couldn’t have done that without stepping on toes, the party would have never recovered from it”.

He stressed that Nana Addo did campaign for then candidate Kufour, adding that all these falsehoods are attempts to mud-sling the two-time NPP Presidential Candidate.

“There are media reports in their hundreds which indicate that Nana campaigned for Kufour over a period of eight months before the elections…Nana is a solid political figure and no one must disgrace him,” Kweku Baako stated.
