President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated that he will fix the perennial power crises in the country.
Speaking in an interview onDW TV's "Conflict Zone" hosted by Tim Sebastian, President John Mahama noted that as part of measures to resolve the energy problems; his government bringing 1000 megawatts of emergency power to augment the current electricity supply.
According to him, the introduction of the power barges by the government is a step in the right direction.
This, he recounted, is because "our economy has been growing at a phenomenal pace. Average over the last decade is 7 percent. It’s led to an increase demand for electric power. Our demand for electric power is rising between 10 and 12 percent per annum.”
He further noted that the government is also planning to get "4000 megawatts of power over the next 5 years between now and 2020."
He therefore wondered why his government should be blamed for the shortage of power in the country.
“These are cumulative. These things didn’t happen overnight. And so, when I say I will fix it, we’re bringing in emergency power, 1000 megawatts of emergency power in the next few months to be able to catch with demand…So, you cannot blame the shortage of power on one single government or the President.” |
