Former Member of Parliament for Asokwa constituency of the New Patriotic Party, Maxwell Kofi Jumah has urged the party folks not to interfere with the constitutional structures in the party.
According to him, the NPP is party with rules and regulations which must be followed by all and sundry in the party.
Contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM's "kokrokoo", Maxwell Kofi Jumah noted that the indefinite suspension of the party's National Chairman Paul Afoko should not spark controversy within the NPP.
This is because the NPP Disciplinary Committee holds a high authority in disciplining every member of the party from leadership to the least person; he explained.
Mr. Jumah found the decision by the Disciplinary Committee to suspend Paul Afoko to be peculiar to the Committee and therefore should be adhered to by all ranks in the party.
The authority of the Disciplinary Committee members, he argued, is entrenched in the party's constitution.
As a result, “In the performance of their duties, they’re independent. No member, not Akufo Addo, not Afoko, not anybody, nobody; no member can direct them what to do. They also have the power to suspend any member even before they start hearing you. It’s entrenched in the constitution…The Disciplinary Committee has the authority to suspend anybody," he said. |
