Utility Tariffs Increases: It Is A "Necessary Evil"...We Need Cash - Ade Coker

Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ade Coker has urged Ghanaians to cope with the new adjustments in utility tariffs.

Commenting on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Ade Coker noted that the government is not shirking its responsibility to end the perennial power shortages and challenges in the water sector.

But he implored Ghanaians to pay up the tariff increases if only they want better services from the government.

According to him, if the citizens want constant supply of electricity and water; they should not hesitate to pay the percentages on utilities.

He asked the citizens to cooperate with the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) so that they don't pay huge amounts in the future.

“We’re improving the system. And when you’re improving the system, you need cash – capital – to improve the system and the beneficiary of the system must also contribute. We can’t have our cake and eat it…We want improvement in the services. We want constant supply of the services but we must also be able to pay for it. Otherwise the system will collapse.”
