The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has served notice that none of its candidates will participate in the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Pre-Election Debate Series which comes off this year.
The party has released a statement notifying the Institute and the public that the "NDC, has, at its Functional Executive Committee (FEC), Meeting on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, decided not to participate in any debate to be organized by the Institute Of Economic Affairs (IEA), as far as it is related to the 2016 General Election.”
But senior Journalist, Kweku Baako has described the NDC position on the IEA debate encounters as unfortunate and contradictory.
Speaking on 'kokrokoo' on Peace FM, Kweku Baako wondered why the NDC would attend other programmes organized by the IEA but would snub the Institute's debate series.
To him, the NDC's boycott of the debate series smacks of dishonesty.
"It’s a bit contradictory. I won’t say a hint of insincerity and dishonesty.”
Mr. Baako appealed to the NDC to reconsider their decision because "this is the ruling party and it’s a big party. And for some reasons over a period, their relationship with the IEA is too icy. There may be many reasons for that. But I was hoping that the NDC will have a bigger level of tolerance to accommodate IEA…"
“Why is it that they feel comfortable dealing with the IEA on other matters? But when it comes to debate and evening encounter which has now become another issue, they become a bit worried?” he questioned. |
