Presidential Staffer Kojo Adu Asare says President John Dramani Mahama will not supervise the Electoral Commission (EC) to plunge Ghana into chaos.
The Presidential Staffer was addressing the recent Supreme Court (SC) order to the Electoral Commission (EC) to submit the names of all those who registered with National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) card to it.
The Supreme Court also ordered the EC to submit in writing steps that the Commission will adopt to delete the names of the NHIS card registrants including minors and the deceased on the voters register.
The Commission is to submit the names and measures to the court by Wednesday, June 29, 2016.
The court presided by Chief Justice Georgina Wood reportedly stated that it won't allow the Commission to plunge the nation into crisis.
"Let it be known that when we make a pronouncement and it is not complied with and the country gets into crisis then you blame judges. We will not allow that to happen," Justice Sulley Gbadegbe is said to have made this comment.
Kojo Adu Asare told host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's Kokrokoo that President John Dramani Mahama has endured 8 months of trial when the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) petitioned the SC on some discrepancies in the 2012 elections.
According to Kojo Adu Asare, President John Mahama has proven his jingoism to Ghanaians and so will not destabilize the nation.
He therefore wondered why the President, after enduring the NPP legal battle, would tear the nation into pieces.
"“He had the patience to endure 8 months of court…He endured it, went through whatever; that anxiety and vilifications here and there. All kinds of issues going back and forth, he endured it even though he combined that with his work at the same time. That track record is there."
Kojo Adu Asare added that the President will comply with the laws of the country and won't rule over confusion in the land.
"We know the person we’re dealing with. When he stands to talk, people know the sort of person he is. He’s not the type that’s going to plunge this country into chaos at this stage. And he won’t supervise the EC to plunge us into that state of confusion.” |
