Ghana’s Shambolic World Cup Organisation Would Not Have Turned Out This Way If Sports Ministry Had Planned

Patrick Osei Agyemang, alias Countryman Songo, a popular sports presenter atAsempa FM, an Accra-based private radio station has strongly advocated for the setting up of a Commission of Inquiry by President John Dramani Mahama to unearth the truth behind the Black Stars World Cup fiasco.

Delivering his submissions onPeace FM on "Kokrokoo", the "Fire for Fire" sports analyst bemoaned the treatment which was meted out to the Ghanaian supporters who were airlifted to Brazil.

The supporters were reported to have regretted their experiences during the World Cup Group stages in Brazil.

According to reports, the supporters were poorly accommodated as they found themselves in deplorable bungalows. There were other reports of financial misappropriation in the camp of the Black Stars.

In view of this, President John Dramani Mahama has called for a Committee to be established to probe the issues.

But speaking on Peace FM, Countryman Songo rejected President Mahama's call for setting up of the Committee saying most committees formed by the current administration failed to achieve the desired impact.

To him, some of these Committee members have proven to Ghanaians that they are nothing but a bunch of liars.

Alluding to certain similar incidents that happened during the All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique; he described Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and his officials as "thieves", expounding that "they have been stealing the tax payers’ money. They’re squandering it. All this brouhaha gives credence to the fact that the person did not plan. If he had planned, it would not have turned out like this. The supporters would not have slept in the airport; they wouldn’t have gone to sleep at miserable places...You sent people to places which look like prisons.”

He insisted that Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah should not be exonerated but rather compelled by President John Mahama to "render an account to us. The President’s dismissal of him from the post is a complete admission of his guilt in all this.

“The President should set a Commission of Inquiry. It shouldn’t be a Committee. I don’t trust Committees. The Committees are liars…And he should compel them to work within one month, with the High Court Judge, and probe everybody who is involved because their actions do not augur well for Ghana.”
