Kwamena Duncan Expresses No Confidence In YES Fund

The Central Regional Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwamena Duncan has expressed no confidence in the introduction of the Youth Enterprise Support (YES) initiative by the ruling National Democratic Congress.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Kwamena Duncan doubted the possibility of the government implementing the fund to inure to the benefit of the young entrepreneurs in the country.

Addressing a gathering at an event to mark the Youth Day on Tuesday, President John Dramani Mahama disclosed an amount of GHC10million has been set up to support Ghanaian entrepreneurial youth.

The YES initiative is aimed at supporting the youth to be job creators as part of government's plans to bridge the gap between the employed and unemployed in the nation.

President John Mahama assured the citizenry that there will be no political bias in the disbursement of the fund.

Though a section of the public has described the initiative as a good decision by the Government of Ghana, Kwamena Duncan however believes the project will not see the light of the day.

According to him, since the inception of the Mahama government, there have been several promises made by the President to assist the youth; like the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Agency (GYEEDA) but they seemingly have all fallen on rocks.

To Kwamena Duncan, President Mahama's administration is characterized by cynicism and skepticism which to him, has become the hallmark of his governance.

“People look at it with cynicism. They look at with skepticism and all of that…The steps you’re taking; it leaves us with nothing but cynicism and skepticism.”
