KKD Remanded Until January 22

An Accra Magistrate court has for the second time refused renowned broadcaster, Kwesi Kyei Darkwa (KKD) bail.

He has been remanded into police custody after a Human Rights court adjourned the case on Wednesday, January 8, 2014.

Reporting from court, Peace FM's correspondent Agya Kwabena, recounted that the "Ghana's finest" broadcaster came into the court room fairly incapacitated and had difficulties with his gait.

He reported that KKD was in court, looking very sombre in manner and felt acute pains in his leg, hence the possibility of him being rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention.

KKD is therefore likely to be sent to the Police Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, Lawyers for KKD petitioned the Human Rights court to seek bail for their client.

“We are seeking for the bail from the Human Rights court because the District court can’t grant our client bail.”

KKD has been charged with rape by a 19 year old girl.

Though he has denied the alleged rape case against him, however, in accordance with the laws of the country; rape is a non-bailable offence.

The Magistrate Court presided over by Adwoa Akyaamaa Ofosu adjourned the case to Thursday, January 22, 2014.
