Fire Burn Nana Addo...You Want To Be Prez But Can't Push Sports Ministry To Disclose AFCON Budget!!! - Songo

Nana Addo
Renowed Sports Analyst, Patrick Osei Agyemang, popularly called Countryman Songo has taken a swipe at Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for dereliction of duty.

Songo, addressing some pertinent issues regarding the Black Stars participation at the 2015 African Nations of Cup (AFCON), indicted the three-time NPP Flagbearer for failing to put pressure on the Sports Ministry to make public the budget for the on-going tournament.

The Black Stars have qualified for the Finals of the Nations Cup and will on Sunday play against Ivory Coast to decide which team will win the trophy.

Prior to the team's qualification to the final stage of the tournament, there were several agitations across the length and breadth of the country calling on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga to disclose the AFCON budget.

Ghana took nearly $8 million to the last AFCON in 2013, and then had about $4 million controversially airlifted to Brazil at the last World Cup. Both figures were separate from amounts allocated for a World Cup projects committee for other functions.

With these in mind, especially the imbroglio that characterized the Black Stars participation during the Brazil FIFA World Cup, several Ghanaian soccer fans and analyst have been critical about the actions and inactions of the two bodies (Sports Ministry and the GFA).

Countryman Songo
Speaking on "Kokrokoo" on Peace FM, Countryman Songo lashed out at the NPP Flagbearer for failing in his duty as a responsible opposition leader to make the Sports Ministry and the nation's football administrators accountable to Ghanaians, and only appears obsessed with soliciting votes from Ghanaians to unseat the Mahama-led NDC government.

He wondered why Nana Addo has kept silent over the issues relating to the AFCON budget and would not even impress upon his party faithfuls to hold the Ministry accountable.

Countryman Songo, who is no stranger to controversy, in his usual strident manner insisted that "fire" burns Nana Addo for being overly focused on winning the Presidential seat, come 2016.

Why should we vote for you? You want Ghanaians to vote for you to take over but you won’t let your people ask about the budget for Equatorial Guinea. Fire burn Nana Addo! All he knows is vote for me!!!” he charged.

The outspoken Sports Presenter was hopeful that the Black Stars will win the Nations Cup and make the nation proud but stressed that that will in no way shield any political or sports administrator who has misused the taxpayer's funds.

The final match is a ‘do or die’ [affair]. Let me borrow Nana Akufo Addo's words, he says ‘all die be die’. They and Cote d’Ivoire should “die” (to wit the Black Stars should face the Ivorian side squarely to clinch victory)...and when the Stars bring the trophy home, i'll be the first to jubilate; but that shouldn't stop Ghanaians from demanding accountable from our sports administrators. Winning the trophy can never push under the carpet, any issue relating to expenditure at this year's tourney. Never...fire burn them all," he stated.
