I'll Resign By January 2016 If "Dum Sor" Persists...I Put My Reputation On The Line - Power Minister

Dr Kwabena Donkor, the Power Minister, says Ghanaians will be justified in calling for his head if the current energy situation which has culminated in an erratic and unplanned load-shedding is still in effect after 2015.

According to him, the erratic and unplanned load-shedding to wit "dum sor dum sor", in the local parlance, will be resolved by the end of this year; the Sector Minister stated on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" Tuesday morning.

He has therefore asked Ghanaians to patiently wait on the government for another year 2015 as a lasting solution is being found to the problem.

Speaking in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi, host of the programme, Hon. Kwabena Donkor assured the nation that his outfit is working tirelessly to remedy the situation, and vowed to resign early next year should the Power Ministry fail to deliver on its promise.

Dr. Kwabena Donkor told the host that he has put his "reputation on the line" and so, guaranteed that by January 2016; the country will not experience any form of load shedding.

I’m putting my reputation on the line. I said I will resign if by January 2016, we’re not out of load shedding. I will step aside which means by the end of this year [as I said]; we should be out of load shedding,” he said.

Addressing a press conference yesterday in Accra, Dr. Kwabena Donkor said "load-shedding will end this year. Not only will it end but we don't expect to see load-shedding again because of the measures we are taking."

The Sector Minister further bemoaned the erratic power supply that has since 2012 been the bane of this country.

“We must because the load shedding is not good for Ghana. It’s not good for industry. It’s not good for our competitiveness and it’s not good for our reputation. And therefore, we must bring it to an end," he insisted.
