Sefa Kayi Demands Apology; Pillories GBC, GJA....Condemns Assault On Journalist By Stan Dogbe

Host of Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Kwami Sefa Kayi wants Presidential staffer Stan Dogbe to publicly apologize to journalists in the country for his recent assault on a GBC reporter.

Stan Dogbe is reported to have assaulted Yahya Kwamoah, a reporter at State-owned Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), and further smashed his voice recorder, after the later had gone to the 37 military hospital to follow up on an accident involving members of the Presidential press corps.

Moderating Wednesday's edition of the flagship programme, Sefa Kayi exressed surprised at the silence of GBC management and the Ghana Journalist Association on the matter.

According to him, journalists defend the interest of other people who become victims of assault but face rejection when they are involved in such incidents themselves.

If it was somebody else, the media would have made a lot of noise. That is my point. That we sit and we’re all saying that we’re champions of promoting free speech. We’re promoting democracy. We’re doing this. We’re doing that and we’re doing that on behalf of the people of Ghana. One of us goes through this and because it’s a State-owned entity and because the person is from the Presidency; we’re all quiet?” a clearly stumped Sefa Kayi queried.

We’re not giving it the same noise we would have given it because it’s Stan Dogbe. Everybody is afraid because it’s Stan Dogbe,” he added with a slight tinge of incredulity in his voice.

Wondering why Stan Dogbe has not been openly reprimanded but rather left off the hook despite his unprofessional attack on the GBC reporter, the Seasoned Broadcast Journalist slammed GBC for giving premium over Television license at the expense of the safety of their own reporter.

Why the Presidency, for example, hasn’t said anything? Presidency hasn’t said anything. GJA hasn’t issued a statement…And Stan Dogbe himself has not had the b-a-l-l-s to apologize or to even issue a statement. Assuming that we’ve all gotten it wrong, why is Stan not telling us his side of the story? And GBC did not air it?” he quizzed.
