The Director General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Air Commodre Kwame K. Mamphey (rtd) has pledged to take pragmatic steps to address the challenges confronting the Aviation industry in the country.
Expressing his expectations on Radio Gold, Tuesday, Air Commodre Kwame Mamphey was optimistic his leadership as the newly appointed President of the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) will ensure that the necessary interventions are made to revamp the aviation sector.
He said in the interview that the Kotoka International Airport will soon undergo some rehabilitation works to improve upon its operations.
He also stated that the airport’s communication equipment will be upgraded from its current state to remove the communicative barriers at the port.
He further revealed that with the current reduction of the Aviation fuel from 1.23 dollars per litre to 1.07 dollars per litre, he expects an increase in the supply of fuel to the sector to boost the activities of the workers.
Air Commodore Kwame Mamphey was speaking in relation to the 23rd Plenary Session of the African Civil Aviation Commission which is yet to be officially opened by President John Dramani Mahama.
A host of Aviation experts arrived in Ghana over the week to mark the occasion.
The function which will take place in Ghana will see the Minister of Transport and the Director General of the Chadian Civil Aviation Authority who until the next three days remains the President of the AFCAC, hand over his position to Air Commodore Kwame Mamphey.
The AFCAC was established in 1969 to provide the civil aviation authorities with a platform to promote coordination, utilization and orderly development of African air transport systems and other aviation activities.
The Commission in carrying out its mandate, meets to formulate plans at the regional and sub-regional levels for the operation of air services within the African continent and beyond.
