The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Julius Debrah has urged institutions in the nation to participate in the clean-up exercise that will come off on Saturday.
The exercise which is under the auspices of the Regional Minister and the assembly is aimed at ridding the city of filth.
Hon. Julius Debrah called on Chief Executives of various institutions in the Accra Metropolis to actively take part in the exercise in order to motivate workers and residents in the metropolis.
He advised the authorities to spearhead the exercise and ensure that the city is prim and proper, devoid of filth.
“Every habitation forms part or falls within an assembly. So long as you are in Accra, you are either under the AMA or you are under the Ga South or Ga East or Ga Central. Now, the various Chief Executives for those specific areas are supposed to lead the campaign in their jurisdiction,” he said.
He also charged the Police Service and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to roll out strategies to tidy up their surroundings.
The clean-up exercise is scheduled on Saturday, May 4, 2013 to encourage the citizenry to keep their environments off any dirt on regular basis.
Speaking to Radio Gold on Thursday, the Regional Minister explained the objective of the exercise.
“The objective is that if people really get involved. Let’s say a Minister of State jumped to his neighbourhood and donate some 1 hour of his time, it motivates the others to follow because we need to really move from the thinking where we think that all the clean-up thing is the sole responsibility of central government. It is not. So, we are now at an era where we will have to realize that we also have a role. We as the citizens and residents have a role to play if we want to achieve a very clean and nice city.”
