The Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Samia Nkrumah has commended Hon. Amadu Yahya for clinching victory for the party during the bye-election in the Kumbungu constituency on Tuesday.
Hon. Amadu Yahya won by total valid votes of 13,020 representing 51.8% to defeat his closest competitor, Alhaji Imoro Yakubu Kpagu of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who polled 11,896 representing 47.29%.
The CPP Chairperson extolled the victory in hope that the party will be given opportunity to lead the nation in the 2016 general elections.
She averred that the victory is a “testimony to the fact that nothing can break our spirit…This was an opportunity that presented itself for us.”
Speaking in an interview with Radio Gold, Samia Nkrumah noted that the CPP Member of Parliament elect for Kumbungu, Hon. Amadu Yahya, has uplifted the image of the party and his breakthrough is a major boost to the fortunes of the Convention People’s Party.
She therefore expressed huge satisfaction to the party’s representative in Parliament, saying “I’m very happy that we had a candidate; Honourable Moses is a man, you can easily send to the people. I would not have gone and spend time campaigning, time and resources for someone who will not serve the people of Kumbungu well. We’re happy with this opportunity. I know he will show his people what a CPP MP can do for the district. So, we’re satisfied.”
She was also optimistic the victory will help the CPP disseminate its message to the people of Ghana and so, tout the tenets of the party.
To her, the victory of Hon. Yahya is an indication that his father, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah “never dies. The ideas of Kwame Nkrumah will never die. And Ghana needs CPP. Ghana needs the ideas and the spirit of Kwame Nkrumah.”
