The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso West Wuogon of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko has issued a caution to politicians not to interfere with the operations of security agencies in the nation.
Looking at the crime situation in the country, Hon. Kyeremateng Agyarko told his colleagues to refrain from any attempts to influence the security agencies or politicize crime-related incidents in the country.
Making his submission on a panel discussion programme “Kokrokoo” on Peace FM regarding last Wednesday’s gory incident at Ashtown, the Ayawaso MP urged all security agencies in the country to stay focussed and adopt pragmatic steps to beef up security in vicinities across the country.
He expressed certainty over the competence of the security agencies when given the freedom to undertake their duties without any interference.
Residents at Ashtown last week experienced one of the most ghastly crimes in the nation as two persons were hacked and shot dead by unknown assailants.
The deceased were said to have played an active role in the house to house campaign tour by the Member of Parliament for Manhyia, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and inflicted wounds on some persons at the locality, prior to the Presidential and Parliamentary elections last year.
This has since raised an alarm over security in the Ashanti Region and other parts of the country, hence several people calling on National Security Heads and the government to safeguard the lives of the citizens.
Hon. Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko, on Peace FM Monday morning, bemoaned the diversionary tactics by politicians and the security agencies in addressing the issue.
He slammed the Police Service and other security personnel saying instead of them addressing the security challenges in the nation, they are rather ensuring that University students do not embark on demonstrations.
This, he stated, is “a huge and unnecessary destruction” and therefore suggested that the agencies should be allowed to work professionally without any external force.
He therefore advised politicians not to associate the crimes with the common phrase “contract killing” but rather give the agencies a free range to operate.
“To label it as contract killing when it is not contract killing, it is diversionary. As for me, what has happened; I think that the public service, the Police and the BNI and all the intelligence agencies; if they are allowed a free hand [if they are made to focus]” will help solve the security problems, he said.
“All the politicians must come back and allow the professional people to focus on what they have been trained for...Whether it is political or unpolitical, whether it is mere gangsterism, it is frigthening. As for me, I think the only solution will be if professional people are allowed to do their professional work without any interference whatsoever...Police Service, BNI and National Security personnel; if we quit the political influence, we can find way out for what’s happening.”
