Clean The Voters' Register - Sammy Awuku

Sammy Awuku, National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on the Ghanaian youth to seize their destiny into their own hands and protect the future of the country.

Speaking directly to the youth in the nation, Sammy Awuku told host Nana Yaw Kesse that elections in the country can either make or unmake a government, and so charged the youth to be resolute in voting pattern.

Reminding the youth of the failures of the Mahama government to safeguard the economy, since its inception, Sammy Awuku stressed that it is about time the youth exercise control over their decisions and "devote ourselves because the future of our country belongs to us.”

He also vehemently called for the rigid cleaning of the voters' register to ensure transparency in the general elections, come 2016.

According to him, 2016 will be a make or break for the youth and so the voters' register should be assessed thoroughly and any inadequacies in the register should not be overlooked.

To him, the elections can only be transparent when the register is changed.

"If we all want things to be done appropriately, transparently and clean; the voters’ register should be the first thing that should be changed…Nobody should be a stumbling block to the cleaning of the voters’ register and getting one that will reflect the population size of Ghana.”

Sammy Awuku strongly held that the 2016 general elections will not only be a "fight for the leaders in my party. It’s a fight for the youth of Ghana because the youth of Ghana; they want change."

Responding to Sammy Awuku's comments on the programme, the Deputy Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fred Agbenyo warned him (Awuku) not to stop making seditious statements to incite the youth.

"No, you can't come and sit here this morning; and declare revolution on the people of this country and want me to take lightly. You can't do that and expect me to take lightly. It's a very serious issue and I will not take it lightly at all. If you want to win an election, go on the ground. Take your message to the people," he insisted and further purported that the NPP may be up to some mischief.

"We know the things you're planning." he added.
