President John Dramani Mahama has expressed shock over his alleged connection with the Sunyani-based DKM Microfinance Company.
Briefing the press at the Flagstaff House on Tuesday, President John Dramani Mahama stated emphatically that he had never heard of DKM until the company's operations were brought to his notice.
He dismissed reports the owner of DKM microfinance is linked to the presidency saying neither he nor his wife have any knowledge about the microfinance company or the individuals behind its set up.
"This is the first time I saw in the newspapers the DKM man, a lanky tall chap has links with my wife... She does not know him," he said.
Reminding Ghanaians of ponzy schemes like Pyram in the past, he urged political leaders to stop taking advantage of the situation in Brong Ahafo and join in educating Ghanaians to be ware of such schemes.
He revealed that there will be a forum with people in Brong Ahafo to explain the issues to the people. He says government will try to compensate the affected people but it will not be a total refund of their monies.
Whiles expressing shock at the category of people who have been swindled - pastors, intellectuals, professors - President Mahama wondered why Ghanaians would invest in DKM considering the risk involved in engaging such businesses.
He however gave the assurance that government will go after the properties of the owners of these microfinance institutions.
"....we will prosecute the likes of DKM Microfinance...Those who have cheated the people will pay for what they have done”, he vowed. |
