NDC MP Tells MMDCEs: Adopt Pragmatic Preventive Approach To Forestall Fire Outbreaks

The NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for Juaboso in the Western Region, Hon Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, says Ghanaians should not rule out the possibility that the fires that have since razed various markets in the country may have occurred as a result of arson.

He strongly believes the fires are not “normal” and so, would not undervalue the assertion by President John Dramani Mahama that they may have been engineered by the ill-motives of some people in the nation.

Contributing to a panel discussion programme on Peace FM, he warned other market traders to take a cue from the recent happenings and be vigilant in order to avert any further fire outbreaks.

He was of the strong view that thorough investigations be carried out to ascertain the cause(s) of the persistent fire outbreaks.

“There’s something we have to investigate. There’s something definitely wrong. It has not occurred twice; it has occurred more than thrice. We should learn something from it…It’s not normal. I don’t believe (its just coincidental). It is not and it cannot be normal,” he opined.

He charged Municipal, Metropolitan and District Assemblies to adopt pragmatic preventive approach against the fires and also aid the traders to take precautionary measures.
