I Don’t Know Why This Administration Can't Seem To Do Anything Right

A member of the New Patriotic Party, Kwabena Sarpong wants the Mayor of Accra, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije to be held liable for the fire outbreaks at the Kantamanto market and prosecuted in court in the stead of the suspected arsonists arrested quite recently.

A couple of months ago, the Kantamanto market followed by the Makola market and other market centers in the metropolis were razed by fire, which destroyed several items belonging to traders.

The items worth millions of cedis were all set ablaze leaving behind rubbles for scavengers.

Consequently, government employed the services of some American fire experts to ascertain the cause of the fire amidst fears that it may have been caused by arsonist.

This led to the arrest of the suspects who were detained in jail for more than 48 hours by the Police.

Though the suspects have been granted bail to a tune of 5000 cedis and cautioned to present themselves to the Police for further investigations, the NPP Stalwart believes the arrest of Fatau Ibrahim and Yakubu Tahiru aka Rasta was wrong.

To him, the real culprit is the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive.

Speaking on Oman Fm’s political programme on Wednesday, he claimed the AMA Boss quickly rushed to the scene of the Kantamanto fire outbreak with a ‘bulldozer” ostensibly to destroy any evidence and therefore held strongly that the AMA Boss should have been “the first person who should be dragged and prosecuted for arson.”

“….the arrest of the suspects was an attempt to justify the claims by President Mahama that the fires could have caused be arsonists…that is why they rush to prove the President right because the President said he suspects arson….I don’t know why under this administration, they cannot do anything right,” he said.
