Head Of Presidential Delivery Unit Is Superfluous & Complete Waste Of Resources - Sam Payne

Ashanti Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sam Payne has rubbished the appointment of Deputy Chief of Staff, Dr. Valerie Sawyerr as Senior Policy Adviser and Head of Presidential Delivery Unit.

Sam Payne, speaking onPeace FM's Morning Show "Kokrokoo", described the President's new appointment as an unnecessary waste of Ghana's resources.

According to him, there are other abled appointees who are already working in Ministries that play similar roles that the newly appointed Head of Presidential Delivery Unit would be playing in government.

The current administration once had a Policy Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, headed by Dr Tony Aidoo. But the unit was scrapped days after he (Aidoo) revealed that it had been "abandoned by the NDC administration for no apparent reason” and publicly complained that the lack of funds was making it difficult for it to live up to its mandate.

Thus to Sam Pyne, the Presidential Delivery Unit would not inure to the benefit of Ghanaians.

This is because it will not solve the numerous economic crises facing the Ghanaian populace.

It is superfluous in one vein. It is very needless, unnecessary and waste of money. That’s why Ghanaians are suffering."

His advice to the President is for him to stop creating new avenues for looting state coffers but rather find lasting solutions to the incessant economic hardships across the entire nation.

But a Deputy Communications Director of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fred Agbenyo, sharply disagreed.

Speaking on the same platform, the NDC NEC member stated that Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, as Head of Presidential Delivery Unit, has a supervisory duty over all government policies. He explained on "Kokrokoo" that the appointment is a mechanism to check certain policies and actions that the government undertakes so as to enhance the growth of the economy.
