He believed strongly that the opposition party connived with the EC officers to officiate the signing of the pink sheets in order to invalidate the electoral results provided by the EC.
Three electoral officers, two of them from the Savelugu District Electoral Commission, have so far been granted bail after they were arrested by the police to assist in investigations for conniving and allegedly bribing Presiding officers in the December 2012 Elections to sign unsigned Pink Sheets, two months after the Polls.
The arrest of a National Service personnel at the Commission, Miss Salamatu Osman and Amani Benjamin Akandi, the Savelugu/Nantong Electoral Officer, was as a result of a vigilant action by members of the Savelugu constituency NPP who claim to have picked intelligence on the ongoing validation of the unsigned pink sheets.
Narrating the incident on Peace FM, Fila FM’s Kwabena Ntow said the NPP group which effected a citizen’s arrest claim to have seized fifteen (15) of the pink sheets, some of which had just been validated and others which were in the process of being validated.
According to him, the National Service personnel confessed to the act of getting Presiding officers to validate their unsigned pink sheets on the orders of the Savelugu/Nantong District Electoral officer who was subsequently also apprehended by members of the NPP.
A third suspect, Deputy Northern Regional Director of the EC was later arrested by the police in Tamale the same day as an accomplice.
The NPP believes the culprits were charged to cover up the massive irregularities which affected the conduct and outcome of the December polls, for which reason the Party is praying the Supreme Court to overturn the legitimacy of President John Mahama.
Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, General Secretary of the NPP, speaking on the latest development on Okay FM’s "Ade Akye Abia" programme, linked the exposé to a spiritual battle and indicated that the NPP’s legal encounter with the Electoral Commission of Ghana and the National Democratic Congress at the Supreme Court is against supernatural thieves.
The NPP scribe established that the aftermath of the 2012 elections clearly shows that criminals with supernatural powers organized and chaired the elections.
“Oh Lord have mercy on us! This is what happens when you encounter thieves in an election...The NDC and Afari Gyan are all thieves. 2008, they didn’t win but used the thievery tactics to beat us and no one traced it. Their winning formula is through fraudulent means but God has rejected them this time round and made sure they would be shamed,” he added.
But Asiedu Nketia, popularly called General Mosquito, pooh-poohed the NPP’s claims.
According to him, the arrest has rather revealed the hidden motives of the opposition party who he said will go to every length to de-legitimize the Presidency of Mr Mahama.
Sir John is a joker
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM Monday morning, Asiedu Nketia said the NPP loyalists are only tickling themselves by levelling allegations against the governing NDC, but their attempts will end in futility.
“We won’t sit down for the NPP to machinate a plot, to ensnare the Electoral Commission and so, use it as basis to annul the electoral results. If it (the electoral outcome) is annulled, it will affect the NDC because we are the victors,” he said.
He continued; “If what happened had not been thwarted by some people. But if they had signed the papers (pink sheets), it would have meant that the papers that the parties possess would be different from the copies brought to the Electoral Commission in Accra. Then, the court might rule against the Electoral Commission. When the elections are annulled, who suffers? Is it not the NDC?”
“If somebody works under the cover of darkness and manipulates an Electoral official to forcibly sign pink sheets and the signed sheets are presented, it will contradict the copies that the parties have. If this occurs, that will form the basis for the court to say that the Electoral Commission’s results are fraudulent; so, it should be nullified. When it is invalidated, is it not the NDC that suffers?”
He therefore questioned the basis for the NPP's accusations when any move to sign the unsigned pink sheets would invariably affect the legitimacy of President John Mahama and also the NDC’s victory in the 2012 December polls.
“Why would someone do this and then the NDC is rather blamed; knowing very well that any nullification of the election will affect the NDC? Why do you shift the blame onto the NDC? I cannot understand why we would do something to nullify the elections; for you (NPP) to rejoice,” he queried.
He also derided the NPP’s General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie (Sir John) who he described as a “jester” because he does not hold himself as a learned fellow.
According to him, more often than not, the NPP's Chief Scribe's comments on air are inapposite to what happens in Court and therefore implored him to give Ghanaians a true reflection of what transpires at the Supreme Court.
“..That’s why sometimes when you (Sir John) say you are lawyer, you become a laughing stock. Because if you are a lawyer and you know what’s going on in the courtroom, you don't come and pontificate differently on radio, it creates credibility for you the individual,” he said in reference to the NPP Chief Scribe.
