PPP Communicator: If Gays Have Rights What Of Armed Robbers

A member of the Communications team of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Charles Owusu has descended heavily on gay fundamentalists in the country, wondering why they could support an act that defies the culture of the land.

Describing Nana Oye Lithur, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection who also doubles as a Gender Activist of the Human Rights Advocacy Centre, as a “gay lawyer”; Charles Owusu expressed disgust at gay acts.

He issued a stern warning to the proponents of gay rights to be wary of their position since the act is “despicable” and could invoke the wrath of God upon the nation.

The issue of homosexuality has been at the centre of controversy in the country as many people are torn between whether gay rights should be protected or not. Some factions protesting the protection of the rights of homosexuals have condemned it but their stance has been questioned by some Activists.

Nana Oye Lithur, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, when she appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament, was unequivocal that when approved Minister of the newly-created Ministry, she will protect the rights of homosexuals because the constitution grants everyone rights though the practice was illegal.

She held the view that homosexuals have rights as every Ghanaian and stifling them will be same as curtailing their fundamental human rights.

Several people have since criticized her remarks. Paramount among the critics are the Presbyterian Moderator, Reverend Emmanuel Asante, and the Clergy Association who called on the President to revoke her ministerial appointment.

Adding his voice to the dissenting views, Mr. Owusu believed the approach adopted by the Minister will have a negative effect on the nation, since if care is not taken, the act will become an attractive venture to posterity.

“What are we leaving for our children to follow…?” he queried government and called on all concerned citizens to condemn the position of the sector Minister.

He explained that if gay rights are protected, then an equal dose should be given to other deviants such as armed robbers since according to him, they also have right to life.

To him, homosexuality will destroy the moral fabric of the country.

“This thing that we are defending in the nation is not good, it won’t help Ghana. It will wreak havoc and if care is not taken, its rippling effects will be extremely bad for the nation.”

He threatened to stage a demonstration against the protection of gay rights since the act is an abomination to God and the country.

“We will embark on a intense demonstration to condemn the act. We will not accept it today nor tomorrow.” he said.

He however commended the late President John Evans Atta Mills, who he described as a “defender of faith”, for stamping his feet against the legitimization of gay rights in the country.
