Former
New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the Asikuma
Odoben-Brakwa constituency, Paul Collins Appiah-Ofori has called the
bluff of the Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong,
touting him as an “unserious” Parliamentarian.
According to him,
the Assin Central MP may seem outspoken but does not play any
significant role in the legislative body of the nation.
Reacting
to recent comments by the firebrand NPP MP, P.C Appiah-Ofori in an
interview with Okay FM, explained that Hon. Kennedy Agyapong doesn’t
make any contribution on the floor of Parliament.
He disclosed
that the Assin Central MP for the past 12 years has not engaged in any
activity in the House, therefore does not take part in the
decision-making process.
He added that he does not talk nor
debate when parliament is in session and often times absent himself from
parliamentary proceedings.
Kennedy Agyapong recently lambasted
the leadership of the New Patriotic Party, claiming that the National
Executive Committee of the party imposed the decision to boycott the
vetting of the ministerial nominees of President John Mahama on the
minority.
Speaking in an interview with a Kumasi-based radio
station over the weekend, Kennedy Agyapong made unsavoury remarks about
the party’s decision and bombarded the leadership for making a decision
which he believes the reverse of it would have unravelled the corruption
of the President’s appointees.
Known for speaking his mind, he
condemned his colleagues’ boycott and chided the minority for allowing
their partisan interest to override their national interest.
But
P.C Appiah-Ofori who dissented to the position of the NPP firebrand
believes he should have consulted with the party leaders before hopping
onto any media platform to register his dissatisfaction.
“As the
instruction came from the National Executive Committee, go to National
Executive Committee to tell them to reverse [it] but you do not condemn
them publicly and hurl offensive words at them.”
According to
him, Ken Agyapong is gaining notoriety for spewing abusive words and it
is time he censured his speech before contributing to an issue.
Expressing
his uttermost disappointment in the behaviour of the Assin Central MP,
he stated categorically that he is “fed up” with him (Ken Agyapong)
since he has proven to be an ingrate.
He alluded to Kennedy
Agyapong’s incarceration by the Bureau of National Inverstigation (BNI)
which the party leaders intervened for his release, saying even when he
was granted freedom; he made very distasteful comments which betrayed
the benevolence of the party leadership.
To him, the
recalcitrance of Kennedy Agyapong has deafened his ears to the advice by
the party, therefore stating that he won’t heed any counsel by the
leadership.
“They must advise him but he won’t even honour their
invite when summoned. He won’t respect them. He may not even attend [to]
upon the call…” he emphasized.
He cautioned Kennedy Agyapong to censure his speech and ensure his utterances are sifted before making any submissions. |
