Anthony Abayifa Karbo, a Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pilloried Managing Editor of the Insightnewspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. over his claims that Nana Addo's "1 Village, 1 Dam" cannot be possible.
Kwesi Pratt Jnr. said on Peace FM's Kokrokoo on Tuesday, August 30 that it is impossible to construct a dam in every village in the country because scientifically, some villages cannot be damned no matter the efforts by Nana Addo and his NPP.
The seasoned journalist strongly asserted it was not feasible pointing out that “just the geology; it’s not possible to get water to dam every village, it’s not possible. I’m ready to argue out my point with anyone who will challenge me . . . The geology does not support this claim, to have a dam in every village.”
But the NPP Deputy Communications Director, questioned the logic behind Mr. Pratt's argument.
"Where is this argument of impossibility?...Where is the argument of the fact that geology doesn’t even support it? Geology rather supports the fact when you take a critical look at the three Northern Regions, particularly the Upper West and the Upper East; the water level is so low to the point where ground water can be brought to the top…If Kwesi Pratt is claiming that irrigation for poor people in this country is an insult; it’s an insult to who?” he queried.
Karbo, who is also the party's Parliamentary Candidate for Lawra in the Upper West Region, pointed out that available data clearly shows that NGOs and Civil Society groups have set up 84 dams, 149 and 131 dugouts in the Upper West, Upper East and Northern Region respectively.
He therefore noted that if it has been possible for some Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Civil Society groups to construct dams in the some regions of the country, then it is equally possible for the NPP flagbearer to establish a dam in every village in the Northern region as promised.
“I was wondering whether it is for lack of knowledge or lack of information that Kwesi Pratt was making this assertion…He was recently enthroned as a Chief. His Chieftaincy means he must speak the truth. That is the title he was given," he sneered.
