First Vice Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has debunked reports that President John Dramani Mahama has promised residents of Abura that the government will provide each house with a meter.
He found the reports ridiculous because to him, the "one meter, one house" policy is already being implemented by the Electricity Company of Ghana.
According to him, the President rather made a promise to assist the people of Abura to curb the electricity consumption challenges.
Reports were rife in the news media that President John Dramani Mahama, during his tour of the Central Region, had promised the residents that he would provide thousands of meters per house in the vicinity.
It was indicated that the President's pledge was premised on winning the 2016 Presidential elections.
Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, he noted President John Mahama assured the people of Abura that his government will ensure that "instead of one compound's meter serving about 20/30 families; it should be possible for us to disaggregate it for every family to get its own meter. Then you’ll be enjoying the lifeline . . . So, it is a practical issue that the people put across to him.”
He discounted claims by any media house that the President made a promise of "one house, one meter", stressing that "in any case, every household has a meter. So, if the Daily Guide is saying ‘one house, one meter’. I don’t think it comes from the President. I don’t want to waste my time debating that issue.”
