EC Has Not Deleted NHIS Card Registrants From Voters' Register - Abu Ramadan Insists

Abu Ramadan says the Electoral Commission (EC) has not deleted names of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) card registrants from the voters register.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Abu Ramadan expressed disappointment in the Electoral Commission's Chairperson, Charlotte Osei over her adamant disposition to comply with the court ruling.

The court on Thursday, May 5, following a suit by Abu Ramadan and Evans Nimako against the EC, directed the Commission to delete names of individuals who registered with NHIS cards and provide room for them to re-register.

Though the EC has published affected names in a bid to follow the directive of the court, Abu Ramadan stressed that the Commission gives such impression to the public but it has not been transparent with the process.

He stated emphatically that the Commission has failed to remove the names.

“The Commission has not deleted names of persons they submitted to the Supreme Court from the voters register . . . I plead with the Commission not to allow us to go back to the court to seek further interpretation.”

He also was unhappy with the EC's 10-day ultimatum to re-register the individuals who are affected by the removal process because to him, the period is too short for the Commission to make adequate preparations.
