"Temper Justice With Mercy" - Adu Asare Pleads With Supreme Court

Presidential Staffer, Kojo Adu Asare has pleaded with the Supreme Court to temper justice with mercy over the contempt suit against the Host of Montie FM's late afternoon show, Salifu Maase and two other radio communicators.

This week has been rife with news about some disparaging remarks made by the three persons; Salifu Maase, popularly called Mugabe, Godwin Ako Gunn and Alistair Tairo about Judges in the country.

The three threatened to visit mayhem on the Judges if they don't leave the Electoral Commission alone.

They threatened the lives of the Judges with one of them claiming he knows the residence of the Judges and would attack them in their homes.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Kojo Adu Asare pleaded with the Justices to pardon the three culprits because there has been a precedent where the court spared the life of the former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, a.k.a Sir John, was arraigned before the Supreme Court for contempt of court during the NPP petition over the 2012 electoral results.

His counsel, Lawyer Ayikoi Otoo apologized to the court on his behalf and the Judges tampered justice with mercy.

Mr. Adu Asare believes what's good for the goose should equally be good for the gander, stressing that "maybe Sir John deserved to be in jail at that point."

He therefore appealed to the Judges saying "an apology was rendered and if they tampered justice with mercy because of the apology, then we are also pleading to ask for the same ‘tempering justice with mercy’ on behalf of these boys . . . We will not dissociate ourselves from the station . . . As for the programme and what it did on that day, it’s regrettable. We will never associate ourselves with that statement that the people made.

"These guys did the wrong thing. If their action contravenes the law, they should be dealt with according as the laws proscribe. But is it going to be just these people?”

Also touching on the issue, the Acting General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) John Boadu expressed disgust over the activities of the pro-NDC radio station, Montie FM.

According to him, the host and panelists on the programme have made it their objective to “rain insults” on the NPP Flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo.

John Boadu however pleaded that Montie FM together with any other radio station, - pro-NDC or pro-NPP - should be allowed to operate but within the acceptable limits and norms.
