Atik Mohammed, Aspiring General Secretary of the People's National Convention (PNC) has blamed President John Dramani Mahama for the loss of any human live as the Ghana Medical Association (GMA's) nationwide strike intensifies.
Following the strike action by the GMA which was necessitated by the breakdown of negotiations following government's unwillingness to provide the doctors' with their preferred conditions of service, some patients have reportedly died as a result of the doctors' withdrawal of outpatient services.
They (GMA) have however indicated that they will resume work immediately government concedes to their demands.
Contributing to Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Atik Mohammed stated emphatically that President John Mahama should be "answerable" for the lost lives.
According to him, the adamant character that the President has exhibited towards the doctors may have result in the deaths.
“Already this partial strike that they have embarked on, do you how many lives we have lost? And all those lives, President Mahama is answerable for those lives.”
He further advised President Mahama to soften his stance on the doctors, pointing out that though he has the "power to talk tough but in talking tough, [look] a lot of the time it doesn’t solve problems. You acquired this syndrome when you went to Botswana. I thought upon your return, the numerous doctors could look at it and cure this disease but you said no. You will not allow them to cheat you. We’re now experiencing its consequences. |
