Deputy Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Fred Agbenyo has explained the reason for the party's General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia's intercession on behalf of the Electoral Commission regarding the voters' register.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia rebutted the opposition New Patriotic Party's (NPP) arguments for a new voters' register.
Due to the adamant position taken by the NDC General Secretary on the issue, a section of the Ghanaian citizenry has questioned his right and role in the affairs of the Electoral Commission (EC).
Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, Fred Agbenyo justified the action by his party's General Secretary, stating emphatically that the NDC is the "biggest political party" in the country.
According to him, the NDC is by far the largest political party in the nation and so, has the ultimate right to speak in the interest of the nation.
“NDC is the biggest political party in Ghana. So, we have stake in every issue that concerns our elections in this country. Secondly, our fear as a political party is that the call NPP is making will discredit electoral register,” he added.
He further noted that though he's not against "anything that will give us the best ever register in this country", the NPP's call for a new register however sounds absurd.
He defined the biometric voter registration as self-rectifying machinery that help to correct any discrepancies in the electoral process. |
